The City is in the middle of a 25 year sewer rehabilitation project. I get your constant complaints with infrastructure here, as they’re not at all unfounded, but your main complaints tend to be about things the city is already addressing.
Nah I get the 500 mile road graph they posted but there's still roads literally sinking into the earth they haven't adequately addressed it and smelling literal shit when you're on a patio at a bar is third world stuff. The Guardian already wrote a scathing article about KC & COPA we are going to fail miserably in 2 years for the world to see.

Anyway back on topic The Landing is a nice addition to Westport.

You clearly haven't sat one enough patio bars to know that smelly shit isn't third world type stuff. ;)

To be honest, brand new plumbing and sewer systems still have issues. Turns out people are really fucking dumb and put things down drains that aren't supposed to go there, which cause problems like smelling shit when you're just trying to work on your "top 100 fucking things I hate about this city and my life" list on a nice Westport patio bar.

That wouldn't cause literal sewage to stream down a street. It's a public health issue but hey I understand you don't care because this mediocre city is getting another few miles of street car!

I think I've been on the street car like 3 times, but I do support it none the less. I've got my complaints about this city too, just saying I've seen sewage stream down a street in places with much newer below ground sewer infrastructure in this city and others. I guess I've seen a lot of shit.

The gyros are delicious atleast. In all seriousness I think Westport is going to make a comeback the landing is a fun place and the other bars opening soon are some cool concepts.

Hmm when I went it was pretty busy. I think westport has an overall image with safety. Until that's fixed local bars in that area are likely to struggle.

Privatizing the streets fixed all that. I was told so years ago when we fought it and got denied.

It would be highly unlikely for a sewage pipe to be close enough to the surface to force sewage onto a street. It would be more likely the line from the business to the city pipe that has an issue.

Yup ended up being a joke like everything else with law enforcement around here. They just stand around and use the metal detectors. No patrol of the surrounding area, people are drinking partying, and shooting.

That literally what KCPD said they would improve. They wouldn't have to be in the heart of Westport and could be out in the neighborhood. Yet another false promise and inaction by KCPD.

Yet we have no recourse.

This election shows that local control should be easy to attain. You put a measure on the ballot that says, "Should cities/municipalities have control of their own police departments instead of a board chosen by those outside the jurisdiction? This ballot initiative will save $500,000 in Kansas City due to cost efficiencies and have zero effect on any other city in the state." The problem is, the grass isn't always greener. I'm not sure we like a police department controlled by local electeds.

I think Sly James told me in 2016 it was something in the mid millions spent on duplicate services and administration a year.

Remember when that Minneapolis mayor got screamed down because he wouldn't denounce the police and then driven out of office or when that police station was taken over in Seattle because the council was openly against police? It could be worse.

Many Kansas Citians are openly disappointed (might say disgusted) with police services in the City. I don't think they would be too upset with local control and the mayor and council having more influence and accountability over police administration.

Police administration is not responsive to neighborhood association boards, or other community groups. Large property owners do not influence them (Country Club Plaza, Cordish).

Fresh pour at former Ça Va space: Popular chef takes over Westport hotspot with crisp new Champagne concept
...
The new owner’s vision for “Le Champion” once it pops its cork: a full-service coffee shop in the morning through the afternoon, Wednesdays through Sundays. Domingo’s former business partner, Heather White (of Tailleur, Cheval and Enchante The Bakery in Midtown, will make the pastries, quiche and other savory items for dine-in, or grab-and-go.

Then at 5 p.m. laptops will shut down, music will go up and the lounge menu will roll out — charcuterie, Champagne, wine and cocktails. The space will have a Ralph Lauren/heritage sports decor, Domingo said, noting some nights it will be closed for private events such as birthday and holidays parties.

I just realized that the former Which Wich location (at Westport and Mill) has been closed for like three or four years...and absolutely nothing has happened with the space! AFAIK, there's still furniture in there! There's even a Which Wich sign in the window. Anyone know what's going on?
