Re: Westport
On another note, Westport Road needs to replace some street trees that have been lost.

Add Arizona Trading Company (ATC) at 209 Westport Rd to the closing list. This is a pretty large space (for Westport) - maybe something significant will surface.Midtownkid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 4:25 pm Midcoast Modern closed last week. (Owner is moving, It's not closing because of a problem with the area)
Buffalo Exchange is closing the Westport store to concentrate on the Crossroads location (didn't sound like a Westport issue)
Dave's Stagecoach closed a while ago.
The east end of Westport is clearing out a little. However, POP! Vintage and Wonderland Vintage both expanded recently. I'd love to see Dave's reborn as another dive bar and more vintage store open where space is becoming available.
Will be interesting to see how the streetcar impacts this side of Westport. Hope it brings more local retail.

Re: Westport
I've been there on the weekend 4 different nights this year each time it's been pretty empty which was surprisingbrewcrew1000 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 9:44 pm Westport is not even on my radar anymore expect for a weekday dinner at Westport Cafe or Tauiler. Feel like the place has an identity crisis. The vibe is really weird on a weekend, maybe it's just too young for me now but If I want to go to a dive bar I will go to Strawberry Hill and for a cocktail I I will go to Crossroads. I don't even know if Buzzard Beach will last much longer. All the people that loved the place have most likely gotten older and have families.

Any updates?Developersanonymous wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 4:06 pm Just met with a couple of guys who are buying the old Point bar, more recently called Madison's. located at 917 W 44th st. (44th and Belleview). its been vacant for a while and they are looking for a tenant who has as something totally new. curious what this forum thinks of the location. could this ever be something beyond a sports bar? it seems to be a unique and cool property with awesome patio but plagued with bad operators. anyone have any thoughts on this? i think it has legs but wanted to see what others think.

Cool concept but more partying probably isn't the best for Westport at this time:

Very interesting concept, Like they are trying something. Hopefully it will make for a fun vibe to bring in like minded folks.
Interesting of note the bar that said would be booking country bands & DJ's as an entertainment venue. Seems like that may be a bit of "oil & water don't mix" kind of an idea. Obviously different nights for different tastes but still....

Interesting concept? It's all the same crap with different colored paint. Cheap on cheap on cheap. These bars are meant to turn a profit for a few years and fade away, new coat of paint and some minor changes, it opens back up as a new crappy concept.Metro wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 9:59 pm Cool concept but more partying probably isn't the best for Westport at this time:

Good drinks? NO, unless price is your main determining factor and sure, dollar shot night here we go! He's a college bar guy that builds college bars, charges college town prices. Wesport will never progress with him involved.

Interesting concept in the fact that it connects several bars/clubs together. Something I can't recall in Westport correct me if I'm wrong? I know the concept at 119th in Overland Park is pretty popular.DColeKC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:53 pmInteresting concept? It's all the same crap with different colored paint. I don't disagree. Combining several bars is certainly a power move. Again I can't recall this being done in Westport.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:26 pmI've had about enough of Allard's bars. It just sounds like a block-spanning version of The Levee, but I'll assume worse.Metro wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 2:18 amInteresting concept in the fact that it connects several bars/clubs together. It’s not really a power move. He bought up a bunch of buildings and is on the hook to do something with them. So he will combine them and operate them as one to save operational costs. It will charge $10 cover with cheap drinks, draw the same crowds, create the same atmosphere and likely same issues that have troubled WP for decades.Metro wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 2:19 amI don't disagree. Only way to let Westport move on to its better version is to stop allowing cheap bars to open.

Re: Westport
Patrons go to cheap bars because they can't afford expensive drinks in upscale establishments. There is a need for all levels of bars where people gather. Westport probably draws many young people who live in the neighborhood who go to UMKC, Rockhurst, Penn Valley Community College, and the Art Institute.
These types of bar districts exist in most major cities.
If Westport becomes an upscale restaurant and bar district, it will compete with P&L and the Plaza. They are going after the market that doesn't frequent those places.

I disagree. There's not many concepts like that in the city it has potential to do very well and help Westport. The elephant in the room of course is security in Westport.DColeKC wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 11:34 amIt’s not really a power move. Not a good sign when Taco Bell stops giving out the bathroom code and has a guard for the bathrooms

Went to the opening of the new bar "the landing" where Californos used to be. Great crowd and alot of fun! One thing to note just south of the building was a sewage leak oozing out of the road. It literally smelled like shit! This cities infrastructure is so embarrassing

Re: Westport
The City is in the middle of a 25 year sewer rehabilitation project. I get your constant complaints with infrastructure here, as they’re not at all unfounded, but your main complaints tend to be about things the city is already addressing.
