Does anyone know what is going on with the MacKay Hall clock tower? It is enveloped with scaffolding.

It's probably due for some needed maintenance.

Wasn’t it struck by lighting relatively recently? I figured it was something to do with maintenance relating to that

It was last spring. Caused some damage to the very top. But the building is old and older buildings like this need routine maintenance.

Completed in 1893 built with student labor. Or as some might say old and dated needs to be torn down and replaced.

Hope they get it fixed soon and do it right, that building is an icon for Parkville.

Pretty cool tour of the inside of the tower. Doesn't look like a single thing was changed or modified from the original construction. As a a quasi urban explorer I would love to go inside that and look around.

Mackay Hall, the defining landmark of @parkuniversity was struck by lightning back in 2023 that damaged the building's spire, roof, and electrical system. Repairs to Mackay Hall were recently completed and Kansas City magazine was there to capture the moment the restored spire was remounted to the building by @farharoofing.
