Swope Health is advancing a $100 million phased development that would locate senior housing, behavioral health units and different health care services on one East Side campus.
The health care provider recently filed preliminary plans for Swope Health Village, a master planned campus on about 12 acres southwest of 59th Street and Swope Parkway. Swope's plan submission comes after the City Council's approval of up to $5 million to fill a funding gap in the project's $15 million first phase, and a future development agreement requiring those funds to be reimbursed through another city agency.

Swope Health Village is planned with three phases totaling approximately 200 senior affordable housing units, built together with development partners. It also will include 75 units of mental health housing, supported by comprehensive mental health services.
The project will include 15 apartments supporting participants in Swope's Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE KC) and 10 beds for substance use treatment in collaboration with the Kansas City court system.
Plans also call for office and retail space, including a new Kansas City Health Department office, community center, renovation of the existing St. Louis Parish church, prairie garden, amphitheater, outdoor basketball court, playground and open space for flexible events.
