Downtown Baseball Stadium
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Other than getting a new stadium, NKC seems like the worst of both worlds, not downtown, we lose a stadium I love, and the same ancillary development could be done at TSC. The upside would be I wouldn't have to chip in.

Well, if you live in Jackson County, you'd get all those downsides AND still have to chip in.
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
How's that? It would be downtown (downside number one on my list above). Ancillary investment would be in a better location.TheSmokinPun wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 11:21 amWell, if you live in Jackson County, you'd get all those downsides AND still have to chip in.
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I do not believe there will ever, under any circumstances, in any possible future, be any ancillary development at TSC. And I hate that part of town. Just despise it. So, I'd take NKC over keeping Kauffman (which I also love).
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I still think downtown EV is the site for the new stadium. Really the best option and looking forward how that project will help really transform the East side of downtown, especially to the South, North, and East of EV location. It will really help fill in the gaps and connect all of downtown & crossroads together. It will help the 18th & Vine area as well as Paseo West. Going to be very transformative and coupled with the 670 park covering will reshape downtown into a destination with neighborhoods and such we have not seen since the 1950's before the Interstates came in.
Maybe NKC could be the place for Chiefs to move. But it appears the Chiefs will be more than happy to take over the entire TSC and do with it what they want and not have to share. The Chiefs will not move into an urban stadium location because they love the tailgating and the attention it brings. It is part of their brand and a selling point for season tickets. Plus they love the parking revenue

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Just drove across NKC. Pop. 4700. I would have guessed way bigger.
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I was thinking it was about 5000, so yeah seems about right. There has never been a lot of residents in NKC. It's mostly industrial warehouse, manufacturing, railroad jobs, etc. Been that way decades. Just within the last 15yrs have you seen the big push to add more residents and developments projects to push that idea. You see some decent examples of creating residential density as well. NKC has a small footprint, one that is even smaller when you look at areas that are zoned for residential development. But I think you will see it continue to grow and maybe within the next 10-12 yrs double its population to around 10K. The infrastructure they have & are investing in could easily support that number.

Their per-person tax revenue must be the highest in the metro.

And I'm willing to compromise and let the Chiefs do that because in return they're going to get downtown baseball passed on the ballot for us.
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
NKC 75 mil budget is about $16k per person.
KCMO 2.6B or about $5,200 per person.
Lees Summit $362M or about $3584 per person

As Walt Bodine would say, "You betcha!"
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Q just announced in Business Session: Royals entering agreement to reimburse for City for professional services tied to negotiations.
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Ordinance passes 12-0. That came together quickly (~20 min from Business Session notification to vote)!
This does not means the Downtown is the selected site but, as Q noted, this likely indicates "KCMO/Jackson County are a substantial part of their focus."

They get trash collected twice a week, weekly yard waste pick-up and their parks have bathrooms. It's another world over there.Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 1:43 pmOP’s 2023 budget: $374.4M, per person roughly $1,899.50. Yeah, NKC is blowing elsewheres out of the water.

Fucking finally some movement on it. Not a full commitment for sure, but much better indication than anything else we’ve seen. Thanks for posting this!
Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
"The Kansas City Royals have represented that they maintain their interest in appearing on an April ballot in front of Jackson County voters, which speaks to the nature of the time frame triggering the same-day request," Lucas said in an email to council members. "Given the timing for placement of a ballot question, the Royals' schedule would anticipate some level of agreement by January."

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Amazing how we still haven't heard a lick from the Chiefs yet considering they'd also have to be on that ballot renewal.
