Big East is at MSG, A-10 at Barclays. Yormark has had this perspective on NYC for awhile, doesn't seem like he would have said what he said about KC two weeks ago if wasn't accurate.Cratedigger wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 2:54 pm This quote does make me wonder about the future of events like the Big 12 bball tournament in KC.

Plus Big 10 is going to have something to say about that too.
It honestly does feel like KC & Dallas will be the mutual homes going forward, both centralized upon where football is popular & where basketball is popular.

I think you can start to get selective after this coup. The Big 12 is now the third best conference, by far, behind the B1G and SEC. So, when ACC teams start breaking off when their media rights crumble, you start picking them up. Clemson and Florida State are probably taken by the two big, but the others would be great adds. North Carolina, Virginia, etc. would add a lot to the league. So, no rush to add just any school. The remaining Pac12 teams besides OSU and WSU would add enough value to add but these big conferences are going to start getting to a number where it's too unwieldy to function. 16 teams seems to be the top of what you'd want. So, we have 3 spots to use. Don't waste them.

Well one thing for sure, 13 is an unstable number. I cannot imagine the B12 staying at 13 for long. It will at least go to 14 and now that the PAC10 seems to be unraveling, 16 seems to be a distinct possibility.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 5:20 pmColorado board unanimously approves move from Pac-12 to Big 12bspecht wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 5:09 pm Colorado officially moving to Big 12 next year (2024). 9-0 vote by regents.

Big 12 Approved Arizona. ASU rumored to be not far behind
Big 12 executives on Thursday approved Arizona as the conference's 14th member should the Board of Regents give the go-ahead for a move, according to multiple reports.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... -pastures/There is substantial sentiment within both athletic departments that a conference sever between Arizona and Arizona State is both undesired and unlikely, sources tell CBS Sports' Matt Norlander. The Wildcats leaving Sun Devils behind in the Pac-12 "would be extremely surprising," one high-ranking source said.
"I just can't imagine Arizona going to the Big 12 and Arizona State not going with," another source said.

Which should mean Big12 moves to 16 teams with Utah and Arizona State taking the only conference that will have them. Cal, Stanford, Washington State and Oregon State on the outside looking in. Next conference to fall is likely ACC with SEC and B1G taking the best pieces. Big 12 might be able to pick up the scraps when that happens adding Louisville or Pitt or Duke. After that, our only hope at staying with the big money is that basketball money grows close to what football payout is.Cratedigger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 1:27 pm Per Seattle Times, Washington and Oregon are to agree to join Big Ten

Arizona, Utah & Arizona St have officially applied to join the Big 12.
That will bring the total to 16 teams. A full extra day of Big 12 tournament in downtown!!

I was already excited about the Big12 basketball tournament this coming year with four new teams and more fans. Can you imagine now with so many new teams and fans coming to the city for the first time?!?! March Madness indeed.TheUrbanRoo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 5:33 pm Arizona, Utah & Arizona St have officially applied to join the Big 12.

I don't think it can be understated just how amazing of a deal Brett Yormark (and his staff) has pulled off in the last year. You just don't see stuff like this in an age where things this big usually take forever to develop. He took a conference barely clinging to life after defections of the top grossing football schools, negotiated a 2.3 billion TV deal that gives each school 32m annually, and took the coveted "4-corner" schools before George Kliavkoff had his morning coffee . This is as impressive as it gets. Good for the big 12 and good for the region. Yesterday was a seismic shift in college sports and it's not close to being over as inevitably the ACC is next on the carving block.
The only negative is all tweets from Arizona fans about wanting to move the bball tournament out of "boring" kc to Vegas!

I've been in Vegas during Tournament Time for these conference. There are like 11 ( I am exaggerating) going on at the same time. They spread them out all over the city and in some pretty dumpy venues. Plus there is no buzz at all for the games. Yes there are ppl from out of town there but it's more like a regular busy vacation weekend than anything else. You may notice a few more people wearing university apparel but that's it. Tickets are super easy to come by & cheap because no one really goes. Fans like to go, bet on their teams and then watch it in bars and such not attend in person. Not too worried about fans complaining because they are going to go to Vegas regardless that weekend and do what they have been doing for years. I'm sure there will be some fans who attended in person that now have to make more complex plans to get to the tourney in KC from out West but they were going to do it no matter what.

Yes. That’s what Yormack was indicating, that what Mayor Q is saying as well. It’s even more obvious to put it in KC now with the conference being so spread out. Nobody will go watch this thing in Vegas.langosta wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:09 amWill the tournament get extended in KC?dukuboy1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:04 am I've been in Vegas during Tournament Time for these conference. After the bizarre Madison Square Garden attempts at the tournament, feels like the Big 12 is completely fine with basketball in KC & football in Dallas.
The Vegas sports bubble is going to have to break at some point. There can only be so many tourists coming to your city to see their team before it no longer feels special, & you don't have the population to last/climate change is lurking in the distance.

I wouldn't be so sure about the football in Dallas comment. I'd imagine there will be some competition for that game from Denver or Phoenix.TheSmokinPun wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:47 am After the bizarre Madison Square Garden attempts at the tournament, feels like the Big 12 is completely fine with basketball in KC & football in Dallas.

I link this article because it contains the only map I can find that reflects what the B12 will most likely ultimately look like in the foreseeable future. There is no doubt that the geographic and population center of the conference will shift to the west as new teams join leaving KC no longer in the center of conference activity. I would think KC might start getting some competition from Denver or San Antonio or some similarly well centered point in the conference going forward. I am glad to hear that the B12 wants to affirm its presence in KC for basketball. Cannot see KC having sole ownership past the next few years - I suspect there will be too much competition. It will be interesting to have people from Florida, Arizona, Cincy and Utah up in KC for the tourney (and wasn't Houston just in KC for the NCAA regional?).
