We might have to name something else after Buck O'Neil.

New retaining walls below Case Park already tagged along with the original Kessler era stone walls covered in spray paint, Yuk! This is the city prepared for the national spotlight in April? We need like many other cities have, a squad that immediately paints over tags.

The Buck O'Neil bridge will close on February 6th to allow for new bridge construction. 169 South will only serve the Downtown Airport and Harlem. The closure will last until the Fall of 2024. 169 North will remain open

That DT view will probably be blocked by the higher north bound flyover.

Steel finally going up above the river channel for the southbound bridge. The steel for the northbound bridge had to go up first due to it being between the old bridge and the new southbound and lack of clearance, even though the southbound will be opened first. Will be opened to two way traffic while the north span of the old Broadway Bridge is razed to make space for the northbound ramp approach.

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
So when this project is complete, will it allow the RM area to develop further to the west and occupy the area now occupied by Broadway as an approach to the bridge? What will become of that space? Otherwise, this just seems like another poorly thought through blunder that we've made so often in the past, sacrifice the urban core for highways and their approaches and cloverleafs.
Another blunder that the city should highly consider correcting is bringing the Heart of America approach down to grade level through the River Market and reconnect the River Market with Columbus Park. Eliminating the cloverleaf at the north loop and Heart of America approach would free up more space for the RM to expand into. Hell, even if it's just surface parking it would be a win relative to the unneeded cloverleaf there now.

I would rank this higher than the south loop lid for that exact reason -- more development space. Same for north loop.Highlander wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 5:55 pm Another blunder that the city should highly consider correcting is bringing the Heart of America approach down to grade level through the River Market and reconnect the River Market with Columbus Park. I could be way off on this, but from the pictures of the KC Streetcar maintenance facility expansion, it looks like it runs right underneath the HOA bridge.DaveKCMO wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 6:45 pmI would rank this higher than the south loop lid for that exact reason -- more development space. That's not the section to lower. It's the southernmost section that's built up on embankment -- 3rd to I-70.

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
Thanks for the clarification, and that does make more sense since I deluded myself into thinking that the plan is to lower it right at the start of the bluff (between Cold Storage Lofts and the maintenance facility).

Why is this a blunder? It's still part of the overall plan after the bridge is done?Highlander wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 5:55 pm So when this project is complete, will it allow the RM area to develop further to the west and occupy the area now occupied by Broadway as an approach to the bridge? Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
Not sure what you are referring to here? Is there a concrete plan to remove the HOA bridge cloverleaf and replace it with simple ramps? Or remove the North Loop altogether? If so, when?KCPowercat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 9:38 amWhy is this a blunder?
