I often bought books I didn't know about while in the bookstore to get something else. Sometimes I'd leave with what I came for, and three other books I saw on the shelves, or discount bins that I didn't know about.

I would love a B&N downtown because I'm downtown more frequently than the Plaza or the suburban stores.

A B&N next to the movie theater would be ideal because I often used to go to a bookstore before or after a movie.

Can anyone think of another retailer with whom B&N with a B&N Cafe can do a combination hybrid store?

B&N is in expansion mode (at the moment) doing well with smaller stores (see Adams Dairy Parkway) with local book buyers. I don't like B&N but Cordish isn't gonna go with an indie.
I would love a B&N downtown, but I question whether there is a big enough market to support it yet.

Uniqlo is the obvious answer here.

I know it's a pipe dream but unique retailer to the region that also could fill need to just have some basic clothing options downtown. Checks a lot of boxes.

Would love a Uniqlo. Any casual clothing downtown would be great.

Had some Texas friends in town this past weekend who way under packed and needed a quick coat. Tried to find something within walking distance, but all we could find was rally house.

On the other hand, they’re all now big KC Current fans!

Exactly. A basic clothing store would be very useful.

I guess Cordish and Target are in a stalemate on rents?

Honestly given that Cordish works with retailers in other markets, I'm surprised the only one in P&L is a local brand that only has sports/kc merch.

Is there not room for an Express, Adidas, Scotch & Soda or Abercrombie & Fitch?

Honestly, the obesity rate keeps increasing so even places that weren’t so fat in 2012 (when that story was written) have surely gotten larger since then. And places that were already “too fat” are even more now. Just my own personal observation from personal experience, for every person that loses weight and gets back in shape, one or two others gains. Sad stuff but it’s what we get for being a country that loves McDonalds, large sodas and binge watching Netflix shows while shunning walking to the neighborhood grocer or park.

Isn't the issue (other than perhaps population/street activity) that places like you mention want to locate near other, similar retailers? This calls back to the continued issue in the city with ground floor activation. Hard to think of a contiguous block where 5-10 retailers of this type could locate.

By my count there are at least 5 vacant spaces between 13th and 14th st on the west side

It doesn't help that they have one leasing agent, for all their properties, and who is based in Maryland.

I miss DColeKC. I'm sure anyone who tangled with him in the politics thread doesn't but this forum is best if I just pretend that thread doesn't exist, which is what Dcole should have done.

He went in the politics thread?!?! Why??? You should have to opt in to that thread with a dire warning. At least you would know what you’re getting into.
