I'm sure a lot of people said that about the WNBA
The WNBA has lost atleast 10 million a year. The only reason it's around is because it's subsidized by the NBA
Like all womens sports unfortunately.
Womens Tennis is great and they sell the matches out

Womens soccer has the potential to be the most profitable and successful women’s sport in this country. It’s very cool KC is part of the lead charge.

Women's tennis players actually make more money per set (at least in the Grand Slams) than the men.

The stadium project includes an adjacent public plaza, restaurant and bar overlooking the Missouri River. These are planned to be operational 365 days a year, even when no stadium events are scheduled, to enhance riverfront visitors' experience.
Already, a number of developers have contacted the Port Authority of Kansas City about potential investments near the stadium. Among them would be "a dense, mixed use and residential" project adjacent to the venue.
The Current expects a soft opening for the stadium in fourth quarter 2023. It would be ready for regular season games in early 2024.

Can't wait to hear more on what's getting pitched for stadium adjacent sites! I think the likely hood of Bally's building a hotel go up with the stadium as well.

I’m excited for the stadium and the development it will be a catalyst for in the area. There is already a great start & this will only enhance what is there, on the books to be completed, and future developments.

I’m not a huge soccer fan but I can appreciate the game & its popularity. Plus the womens game is similar to the mens. Not a lot of differences. Obviously men & women athletes are different put the style & pace and infield product are similar creating a good product for fans to consume.

October construction start
At Berkley Riverfront, the Kansas City Current contemplates an October construction start for its $118 million, 11,500-seat stadium. On Tuesday, the team filed for a $3 million building permit for the stadium's footing and foundation, and the City Plan Commission is scheduled Sept. 6 to review final plans for the venue.

Main takeaways from tonight’s ground breaking:

KC has some folks that absolutely love this city, and they’re doing the work to prove it. The density of people on the riverfront tonight is a pretty good indicator of how it’ll
Be for games.
Image

Traffic wasn’t terrible, and fairly organized, including parking.

Food trucks lining the river walk was a great setup, and hope to see a lot of that going forward, especially for game days.
Image

I happened to run into the city manager, and let him know that if he checks out the rag he’ll find some great ideas from urban minded folks who love KC (also it means we’ll likely need to behave  )

Also spoke to Donna with the SC about the riverfront extension, but I’ll post that there.

Overall a fantastic event, and great to see the excitement for this stadium!

A couple people tossing bean bags and a few hundred in the background amazing
There were probably five thousand people there…for a groundbreaking.

Sporting was 10-11k per game before stadium. Current is 7500 avg. this year. The same stadium induced growth would result in a 12-14k seat average. So current may be under sizing

It always amazes me that certain people don’t want to just hate things, but they want other people to hate them too.

Excited for this project. Thanks for the pictures and updates Anthony.
