You know, that's a great idea! Close Broadway and flood the whole trench. Boats, paddle boards, swimming. Restaurant overlooking the lake. I like it.
Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)
Honestly I think Broadway is by far the biggest barrier to penn valley being a great park, however it also needs to be better integrated into the surrounding neighborhoods

Cap Broadway (with the abundance of funds we have)
Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)
Something as simple as a stop light at 29th would do much to slow traffic. Kansas Citians treat any street without a stop every few blocks as a freeway. Long term a ped/bike bridge from Pioneer Mother to the Scout could activate both sections.

Honestly let’s just cap the whole park. #DoubleDeckerPark

The problem is traffic speed and volume, not the fact that there's a road there. There are plenty of streets in PVP that don't cause issues.
- Close off connection to I-35. With SW Trafficway there, this shouldn't exist anyway and opens up a large parcel for development.
- Three-way stop at 27th and/or 29th.
- Reduce traffic to one lane in each direction, shift all car traffic to east side. Open up west side for peds/bikes/vendors.

I agree and have proposed the same thing elsewhere on this forum. The one prerequisite is the need to make the SW Trafficway/31st street intersection more viable with proper turning lanes in every direction so that people going north on Broadway can take 31st over to SW Trafficway as an alternative route to the I-35 (and return that way as well). The space is available with little disruption inflicted on the adjacent property owner.TheBigChuckbowski wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:09 am The problem is traffic speed and volume, not the fact that there's a road there. They will probably never get rid of Broadway and there is really no reason to. But it should be modified, possibly raised to help level out the topography some and calmed. Broadway needs to be slowed and narrowed with added cycle tracks etc and they need to build bridges and or tunnels to connect both halves of the park. The park will never properly function when it's cut in half by a high speed four lane arterial road.

Wonder if the KC Current ever considered Penn Valley for its site. Like where the Pioneer Mother or the Ball Fields are located

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)
I really like some of the ideas shown in the link. I suggested some of these myself on this forum in 2017 (looks like Urban Angle were already thinking the same way). The removal of the entrance ramp and reducing Broadway to two lanes makes a lot of sense. There does not seem, however, to be any movement towards improving Penn Valley Park in any significant way afoot politically at this moment. Is the problem even on the radar?Eon Blue wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 7:48 amhttps://urbanangle.net/reconnecting-penn-valley-park/GRID wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 1:12 pm They will probably never get rid of Broadway and there is really no reason to. Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)
I still don't know why we need a speedway through PVP. Reduce the street access to one way in each direction on Broadway and place speed bumps every 100 yards. I'd even make Broadway zig and zag some. Uncouple Broadway from I-35 completely. Broadway as it is now completely ruins the purpose of a park.

Went to the meeting. Lots of people complaining about the skate park, graffiti and wanting more police presence. ::sigh::

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)
There were a good amount of One Park Place people there. Interestingly, when asked which neighborhood they were in, many of them marked "Other" and wrote OPP. SW Trafficway intersection just makes it difficult to connect to and identify with the surrounding neighborhood.brewcrew1000 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:46 amProbably the condo ownersbeautyfromashes wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 10:03 pm Went to the meeting. Yes there were a lot about the skate park & police. Just generally cleaning the park up in general and preserving the Scout. Seems like there is community interest in enhanced crosswalks and a nice formal overlook built out. Steps in the right direction
