Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?
Here’s the key to this whole World Cup thing: it finally gives KC every excuse to push anything it wants and the citizens are so over the moon right now they’ll back almost any of it.
“Hey we need money for this, that, this, this, gotta have this too”
Citizens: “Oh ok well yeah I suppose we’re gonna need that for the global stage! Yippee!”
If there’s anything we’ve ever thought was a pipe dream or years away, now is the time to go for it and see what happens. This is the best shot. The people are ripe for supporting projects.

Would be nice if KC really got ready for this event and expedited some public and private investment in the city. Clean up the TSC area, clean up the infrastructure a bit especially in the greater downtown area and the corridors from the city to the stadium, get a few more hotels built etc.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 11:33 pm Here’s the key to this whole World Cup thing: it finally gives KC every excuse to push anything it wants and the citizens are so over the moon right now they’ll back almost any of it.

They can start by re-developing the vacant and deteriorating hotel tower across highway from the stadium.

I think you’re thinking too small. This is way bigger than local money and any kind of citizen vote to fund projects just won’t happen. We should, however, expect and demand money from the state legislatures of both Missouri and Kansas and make sure our federal reps get just as good a place at the trough as the other host cities when money starts coming.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 11:33 pm Here’s the key to this whole World Cup thing: it finally gives KC every excuse to push anything it wants and the citizens are so over the moon right now they’ll back almost any of it.

Right. Reading all the comments on social media right now from KC people is annoying. KC people are so delirious. Not only does the city really need to find a way to get some major improvements done to infrastructure and hotels etc, but KC people have got to stop thinking areas like Village West will be impressive to soccer fans from other parts of the country let alone the world.
KC needs to make the River Crown Plaza corridor shine and clean up the area around Arrowhead. Even the drive from downtown to the TSC is pretty depressing. I hope KC can spruce things up.

Here's Cincinnati news station saying they're glad they didn't win because they can go full NIMBY and not have to spend a meager $10 mil for stadium upgrades now lol- and saying they were booing when KC was announced!

Outside media...
"One of the hosts of the FIFA World Cup is the surprising “Soccer Capital” of Kansas City"
https://worldtimetodays.com/one-of-the- ... nsas-city/
https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/world-cu ... occer-fifaDenver will also be disappointed to lose out to Kansas City — the likely final Central city chosen. But despite Denver’s great weather and ability to host large events, the intense lobbying from Kansas City (which has a massive soccer culture) along with the U.S. Soccer infrastructure and new airport in KC were too much for Denver to overcome.

I can see this as the impetus for getting a 5 star hotel within the next couple of years. What other amenities might be coming? BRT to the airport? Upgrades to the Nelson Atkins grounds and south lawn of Liberty Memorial to accommodate the watch party?

That won't make the north loop removal happen quicker.TheLastGentleman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 10:49 pmThen we need to stop the new broadway bridge ASAP

Let's not worry one second about anything around TSC. Goodness can we get our priorities straight just onceGRID wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 11:59 pmWould be nice if KC really got ready for this event and expedited some public and private investment in the city. We should focus on capping the south loop, creating and further expanding the green line, including to the stadium, and further integrating the stadium into the existing neighborhood with a new development, we should also ask for serious funding from state and national to help upgrade our infrastructure for the event.
Ideally also purchase a rail line to the stadium, and create a one stop stadium to union station line which can be further expanded later.

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?
^A rail line couldn't be completed by then. I realize it sounds great on paper but isn't necessary. It's more practical to run constant charter buses between stadium and DT/Plaza and maybe airport hotels. Several of the other WC cities will likely be doing this as well anyway and not rely too much on public transit. Lots of large conventions in major cities rely on event/charter buses between key event places rather than public transit. There's much more control of logistics this way and less confusion for those unfamiliar with the local transit.
Could also see Uber drivers from surrounding cities coming in to get a piece of the action, including STL drivers.

Yeah we aren't the only host city with horrible transportation to the stadium. Most are.

Ok NDA over. When did you really know?DColeKC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 2:48 pmI’m involved personally and not a single person in this city knows for sure if we got it. Not the Mayor, Governor, and no one at Sporting. Could be many tears and a huge letdown but the other option is don’t have an event and risk missing out on a huge moment for this city.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 10:07 am Hosting a party at P&L is the biggest sign to me we are in. I imagine there will be a live cut-in shot to the party once we are announced.
I’d love a good leak because I don’t like public crying.

^And is P&L planning on any upgrades for the event, like more screens in Live district, etc.
And those with great public transportation will probably rely mostly on event buses as well, particularly if the stadium and event hot spots are scattered.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 8:06 am Yeah we aren't the only host city with horrible transportation to the stadium. Most are.
