Missouri is the first & only state to do this.

"A bill intended to help bring the 2026 World Cup to Kansas City is headed to Gov. Mike Parson's desk.
The legislation, sponsored by @JohnJRizzo, would terminate sales tax collections on World Cup ticket sales if some matches at held at Arrowhead. #moleg"

Actually Georgia and Florida already passed similar bills...

Here's the FL one. an exemption on admissions to Formula One Grand Prix and Daytona 500 races, and World Cup matches. kcjak I'll take your word for it on the Georgia one.

https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/7071

This took literally 90 seconds of Googling so KC Star should have better researched it before making that claim.

The important thing is that KC is doing this & their prime competition in Boston & DC haven't.

It’s official: the 2026 World Cup host cities will be announced in a ceremony on June 16th in NYC.

Here’s some news- Steven Goff of the Washington Post is reporting it could be up to 12 USA sites chosen instead of the original 10

From the last sentence in that article:

"The USMNT next travels to Kansas City on Thursday for a Sunday friendly against Uruguay. Tickets for that match start at roughly $90, fees included."

I had access to the presale - the cheapest tickets available then were "only" $70. U.S. Soccer is not doing itself any favors.

Have to find every penny they can to pay the huge legal fees for the seemingly never ending litigation with the womens national team for equal pay.

Grant wahl had another update last week. Summarizing from memory, but basically Boston is falling behind in the three he considers the toss ups.

Still goes with kc last one in, dc/Baltimore next if Canada loses a city, and Boston out.

The U.S. Men’s National Team played 13th-ranked Uruguay to a scoreless draw in front of a sellout crowd of 19,569 on Sunday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park
Good crowd

Official time now: 330-530pm watch party at P&L for the World Cup announcement on June 16th.

Here's what I'm wondering about:

"Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe and KC Mayor Quinton Lucas will speak following the announcement."

Do they know KC is getting it? Because why would you have the LG of Missouri come in and speak "after" the show otherwise..?

It’s not the Governor so they must not be that confident

I think Kehoe was the main supporter for the bid from the state.

Kehoe has been the point man on this from Missouri.

Also since I posted that I talked to someone fairly reliable about this event and they said yes they think they’re getting it.

Just to add to the above, the confidence has been and remains very high from the KC bid team's perspective. The competition with other bid cities has never been an area of emphasis for the KC team -- it's always been about showcasing why KC is a great place to host an event of this magnitude; rather than why other cities are not.

The relationship developed with FIFA throughout the entire process has been extremely productive and positive. All indications are promising -- we'll see what happens on Thursday.

It does probably help that
1. Apparently Bostons bid has fallen off due to its hostile local government
2. DC had the stadium debacle and had to move to Baltimore
3. KC hasn’t had any issues

Besides the lack of transit, hotel rooms, distance to stadium/airport, etc.
