Why didn't they make this whole area a grid when it was just a plot of dirt not too long ago?

This area wasn't/isn't viewed as a part of downtown. Untested waters so developers went with what works, suburban style complexes with some urban aspects. Its really not big enough for a 3rd east/west road.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 10:44 pm Why didn't they make this whole area a grid when it was just a plot of dirt not too long ago?

Really love the density and massing of this project. Good news for the riverfront; should tie in really nicely with streetcar stop and pedestrian pathway to City Market.
That said, wasn't this to be the parcel with the hotel deal? If that fell apart or is to be built on another parcel, perhaps I missed it.

The hotel announced last year is closer to the middle of the parkrxlexi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 12:17 pm Really love the density and massing of this project. Good news for the riverfront; should tie in really nicely with streetcar stop and pedestrian pathway to City Market.

There was a hotel proposed for this site too. Probably used a fraction of the land for the actual building. Would have looked terrible. This is much better.normalthings wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:34 pmThe hotel announced last year is closer to the middle of the parkrxlexi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 12:17 pm Really love the density and massing of this project. Yes, there was one a while ago. There have been a few concepts worked on this site since then.GRID wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:11 pmThere was a hotel proposed for this site too. Which hotel is still in development? I'm thinking of (I believe) the Origin hotel proposal from last summer. Was thinking that was set for this parcel?normalthings wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 4:19 pmYes, there was one a while ago. Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
This project looks way better than I had envisioned for this parcel. i was always glad to see this parcel was going to be built upon, but this really fills in that front gateway.
Here is another angle. Does this connect to the apartment building currently under construction?

Can that garage hold a tower? The city should push for that.
