Lula's takes over NARA space in Crossroads
In the former NARA space.
In Kansas City's Crossroads, Lula Southern Cookhouse serves comfort food just like Grandma used to

Not Lulu’s, Lula. Southern cuisine vs Thai.

It is fantastic. Just saw them post that the pop-up space has been extended through April. I sure hope they can make it permanent.

We went early on for a preview meal. Didn't get to try the fried chicken because at the time it was only available "for two". Great food quality and I'm sure it's even better now that they've been open awhile. It's awesome they were able to make the space their own considering how long Nara occupied it. The food is obviously on the heavy side.

Have been hanging out across the Southeast last couple years more than normal taking care of various elderly relatives (GA/NC/FL) and getting a better occasional feel of the suth'n cook'n (back in Central FL now - the Xroads of Deep South, Latin Americas and homogenized suburban United States of Generica). Most diss a foodie version of soul food/southern eats just as most of KC would diss white tablecloth BBQ but this really sounds interesting. There's always a place for one or two as long as it's about the eats and not the atmosphere. Looking forward to trying this.

We ate there just before New Years. Was fantastic all around - very happy to see it made permanent.

Every time we think about eating there, I look at the menu and get put off by what seems like an enormous amount of food.
Is it as heavy as it sounds?

Lula's takes 10-year-lease in former NARA space on Main.

The co-founder of Lula Southern Cookhouse at 1617 Main had been temporarily leasing the former Nara space since November until his dream to create a culinary home for true Southern cooking came through.
“We were only going to do November and December, but it went extremely well,” Gilmore said. “People really love it and we decided to keep going in January for Restaurant Week.
“Our landlord said, let’s figure out a 10-year lease.”
He signed last Wednesday.

Great news that they have taken the space permanently. Not only is the restaurant fantastic, the space is beautiful.

Love to see it“I love it down here,” he said. “I spent the last five years in the suburbs and the energy of downtown is great. People are very positive and there’s a diverse customer base. My family and kids love being down here too.”
