Mahomes doesn’t need a KC investor group. He can team up with billionaires from anywhere and get a team. Even if you had a team of investors from Boston…where else are they gonna go with a team? The only real alternative was San Diego and they just declined it.
I haven't read this whole thread, but Seattle and Vegas both have to be near the top of any list of new NBA cities.
I'd love to see a team here, but the Sprint/TMobile Center is 15 years old - would probably be 20 yrs old by the time a team got here. Are there many examples of expanding or relocating teams moving in to 20 yr old arenas? Just not sure that's realistic. It's minimum $1.5 billion for an NBA team these days. If anyone drops that kind of coin on a team, I imagine they are looking to soak a tax base for a shiny new arena. If there's a way to get it done, I'm all for it. Just seems unlikely to me.
The thread earlier covers this, yes.
Las Vegas & Seattle are going to get expansion teams. If what I’ve read is correct, they’re going to announce the expansion this summer after the season. Yes these two are already a done deal for expansion.
What KC will be looking for is relocation. It’s significantly cheaper ($1.2 bil or so) and there are two cities I believe to be on the verge of relocating. New Orleans and Memphis.
You’ll hav to go back to Page 1 and read the plan I laid for how we could get New Orleans.
I get your point on the T-Mobile Center, but that can be countered:
1. Despite the age, it’s still a high functioning
2. It has 19k seats, which would put it at 14th in the NBA in terms of capacity- very good
3. And this the key- it’s surrounded by the P&L district. The district itself is probably enough to overcome the arena age. The league has mentioned it loves the district and location. It’s right in the heart of downtown, and it’s a year round thriving area.
