Hopefully they do something with that, could sell it off to a developer and use the money to pay for barneyflyingember wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:03 pmIt was on the parking lot next to their building, it's not owned by KCS. The city owns in today but for years it was tied up in a family squabble over who owned it after the owner passed.

KCS said they wanted to do a mixed use development there with the city.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:03 pmIt was on the parking lot next to their building, it's not owned by KCS. The point being they can't sit on the land and do nothing because the city could move on.normalthings wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:16 pmKCS said they wanted to do a mixed use development there with the city.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:03 pmIt was on the parking lot next to their building, it's not owned by KCS. Maybe, might be better that it sits with the city until someone comes up with a development idea or until the city needs it. Could be the site of the next convention center hotel in 20 yearsRiverite wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 3:12 pmThen they should sell itnormalthings wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 3:09 pmI think the city is specifically saying the city doesnt want to develop there anymoreflyingember wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 3:08 pm

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
Why are they proposing the apartments be on the west side of the block? Wouldn't it make more sense to have them on the east side of the block facing the Muehlebach Tower, Aladdin Hotel, and that proposed office building where a decent street wall could be created on that block? It would be a better pedestrian experience to have both sides of the street activated on that block.
I hope the City sells that 12th/Broadway parcel and a developer puts something substantial on that site -- a Grand Hyatt or perhaps a 20-story apartment tower.

BAP is getting taken down to grade. I think hotel guests would prefer walking straight out to the park instead of having to walk around a building. Building on the east side would isolate the park from the hotels.FangKC wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 4:27 pm Why are they proposing the apartments be on the west side of the block? IIRC, the city can't incentivize another large hotel near the convention center for a while. A Grand Hyatt or similar would a. be large and b. require incentives

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
Thanks for the memories...Need that replaced for new generations of youth!
Do kids even live downtown anymore?
This picture made me smile big time. 12th street bars, KMBC in background.use to watch Gus and Tory on channel 9. Hate to say it but tall towers and no fountain just doesn't do it for me. Modern streetcar is great. Hope it gets expanded and used alot to spread the Kc Spirit. Hell, hope some day it will go to the 2101 time capsule where ever it is. Someone call Kay Barnes, she will know!

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
From the aerial perspectives I do not see much improvement. I hope from street level the bulk of BAP is closer to grade. Would rather have a monumental signature fountain than a "decorative water feature." And deeper soil basins to support some real shade trees.
