Or center-running BRT, as Vision Metcalf originally envisioned...alejandro46 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 8:21 pmImagine if somebody put it on a streetcar enhanced road diet. . . game changer.

Re: Favorite suburban downtown
There's a way using existing service
401 runs every 30 minutes for most of the day and goes to 51st and Troost via the plaza as that map shows
25 Troost runs every 30 minutes.
Combine 401 and 25 into a split direction line (half go north, half go south on Troost). It's a bus into downtown and it connects the cooridor with Metcalf without transfers.
It adds a little complexity but it's possible even as a partial day service
Re: Favorite suburban downtown
You can transfer on the Plaza, and eventually, that will be a streetcar stop. Seams like the most efficient way. Only 15-minute headways on the Main max so never a long wait.Yeah I was thinking one that started at the transit center downtown though so people can switch from one to the other

Transfers are the worst thing ever for transit. We should do anything we can to not have them in the system.shinatoo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 12:02 pmYou can transfer on the Plaza, and eventually, that will be a streetcar stop. Going to 12th and Grand from 95th and Metcalf at 8am is 30 minutes by car. Main Max is every 15 minutes too.
Let's say you catch your bus on time on Metcalf. You have to plan a 15 minute gap at the Plaza because if you don't you can arrive late if your busses timing is just a little off.
Google says that at 8am by bus that's roughly 1:15.
So just removing that one transfer from their trip removes 20% of the travel time. That's huge, you just gave them back 60 hours of time per year.
And it's worse than you think. We're sending someone to stand in the snow or summer heat while doing this.
Frequency and Continuity of service defines an area.
Look at all the places in this thread. None of them have single line bus service to both the plaza and downtown today, not even the ones where it's possible to. One gets 20 blocks from the plaza and we just expect everyone who lives 5 miles north of downtown to transfer halfway to their destination. It doesn't make sense.
If you want to see why people drive from one bus stop to another, and I picked those two spots for that reason, it's because we have never managed to have a fully functional bus system for anyone other than the east side or directly south of downtown.
it's no surprise NKC isn't looking to increase money for bus service but is interested in the streetcar. They're one of those downtowns where you have to transfer busses to reach the plaza and they're almost the same distance away as to 12th/grand as the plaza is
