I'd be curious to know what changes in business CVS has seen as a result of the transit center moving. Probably a little hard to tell since it was in the middle of COVID, but I always felt like the transit center generated a lot of business. Makes me think they might become more open to moving elsewhere downtown. On the other hand, their existing location is on one of the densest office and residential blocks in downtown even without the transit center traffic. Not to mention it retains proximity to streetcar.FangKC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:35 pmIt should stay a restaurant for the simple reason that there are so few spaces already set-up with kitchens for restaurant spaces.smh wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:26 amI'd guess it stays restaurant given it has a kitchen built out, but I'm really into this bookstore idea. That never occurred to me but there's a good amount of foot traffic on that block, even more soon w/ W&R project and I'd be very interested in a downtown bookstore.
What I'd like to see is CVS move to a larger space so they can carry more merchandise, and a small bookstore take over that space.
The other location that would be good is the Bonfils Building on the SW corner of 12th and Grand.

Of course everything comes down to layout.

Stays a restaurant and bar.smh wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:26 amI'd guess it stays restaurant given it has a kitchen built out, but I'm really into this bookstore idea. From the Business Journal:
https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity ... 2021-04-26B&B will transform the former Chesterfield bar downstairs into its Johnnie’s Jazz Bar & Grill. Currently, Liberty is the only theater with the Johnnie’s concept. Farnsworth expects the downtown location will open with a similar menu, which likely will be tweaked over time as the theater takes note of what guests like. Menu items at the Liberty location include a variety of burgers, honey bourbon glazed salmon, Kansas City strip steak and lemon garlic shrimp.
The downstairs bar also includes a built-in stage, which B&B will use for live music – from Country music nights to jazz. It also is mulling trivia nights, open mics and karaoke.

^Hopefully they can make it work well and lead to some extra nightlife. Any little bit helps.

I hope they add their kid friendly theatre with the play area to one screen. If you've never been, best to look at the photos on their website, it's in their Liberty location.
We'll be back downtown for movies more if they do.

The Mainstreet originally had a nursery for children.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainstreet_TheaterThe Mainstreet was the first theater in Kansas City to have a nursery for children whose parents were attending a show. Located in the basement and staffed by a trained nurse, it offered toys and games for older children and cribs for babies.

Is a Cordish hotel still happening? I seem to remember that it was proposed and “about to happen” according to one user.

GM of drunken fish told me they’re not renewing and on the way out.
From what I know, I’d expect some new tenants over the next several months in the Sushi, retail, coffee and CBD categories.

well that will be a nothing loss. That place is pretty gross.
Let's pray we can get Nara back downtown somewhere. The lack of sushi downtown is embarassing.

We are getting even better Sushi than NARA. I think two sushi places could work in the PNL district though.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 2:12 pm well that will be a nothing loss. That place is pretty gross.

Drunken Fish is good and seems relatively bus. However, something has seemed off at the 2 locations I frequent. So a new sushi restaurant will replace them?

Yeah don’t think they’d let just a straight up smoke and glass shop open unless it was a small location.normalthings wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:25 pmThat makes a little more sense. Feels in-line with the sports gambling we discussed previously.

What’s the ETA for the new sushi? Are they taking over drunken fish spot?
