there are tech things that can solve the hesitation for riders...things like Zoox, which could be more on-demand short runs or on set short routes (last miles) but in any case, not huge buses that run under-utilized much of the day. Even street trolleys that run on bar coded streets for routes off-the-rails. All good stuff and like I have said before - its a good thing KC is late to the game - let others experiment.earthling wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 11:47 pm A rail spine from DT (possibly NKC) to UMKC will suffice for a decade+ along with crosstown BRT lines and other spokes to rest of metro. But there needs to be an effort to encourage bus fearing streetcar riders to use MAX and other bus lines. As mentioned in other threads, until UMKC streetcar expansion is complete, perhaps there should be a free streetcar extender from Union Station to Plaza using MAX buses. An announcement on streetcar arriving at Union Station can promote using the MAX buses to get to Plaza with no fare, the announcement encouraging/endorsing use as a natural extension to Plaza is key.
Understand there'd be logistical challenges with existing MAX structure but many who wouldn't take MAX would certainly at least try this approach and would highly likely improve perception to point of improving general bus ridership overall in the long term.

Re: Regional Transit Coordination
Robo-taxis replacing buses would be ideal, but perhaps another generation away before affordable/accessible for all?

It's happening. The whole process should take about a year. Need to have something identified before the citywide 3/8-cent sales tax for transit expires in April 2024.alejandro46 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 6:59 pm Missed this yesterday:

The other part of this that didn't require board action is resuming the TOD planning for the corridor (it took a break while Hyperloop was in play), which will complete in tandem with the master developer work that B&V is doing. There will also be an "innovation challenge".normalthings wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 7:35 pmThe Board authorizes the CEO to finalize a contract for the Rock Island corridor development with

Davids submits request for $600 million for JoCo highway expansion.
For every step in the right direction, it feels like we take 10 in the wrong.

About 10% of construction workers are in a union and the industry is heavy in minorities on top of that.normalthings wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 9:39 am https://shawneemissionpost.com/2021/05/ ... s-121874/

Stop looking at the mode being funded and look at the voters being funded. If you want to win re-election in 2022 you do what's always been done, handouts to key voters.
Do you think things are going to move in the direction you want if she loses re-election?

I understand why she needs to bring big federal dollars to land re-election. My problem with it is that transit projects weren’t even an option to fund. We just keep building and expanding highways with no alternative discussed or proposed.flyingember wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 9:46 amAbout 10% of construction workers are in a union and the industry is heavy in minorities on top of that.normalthings wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 9:39 am https://shawneemissionpost.com/2021/05/ ... s-121874/

What transit projects are organized to the point they're ready for federal dollars and aren't being funded?normalthings wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 10:23 am

Where's a regional bike lane plan ready to implement?
That the transit planning process has failed for so many years to produce projects ready to fund means roads will continue to get funded.

Exactly my frustration. There are no transit alternatives studied, organized, or even ideas for ones.flyingember wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 11:26 amWhat transit projects are organized to the point they're ready for federal dollars and aren't being funded?normalthings wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 10:23 am

More a failure of KDOT & JoCo than anything else.
Re: Regional Transit Coordination
You'll have a more detailed funding plan in about six months. Details coming next week.
Regardless, we've studied enough. It's time to fund more service. Basic fixed bus or flexible circulator routes don't need big planning studies, if at all. We know where the people and jobs are. You only need to study if you're going to spend a lot of capital and seeking federal match. We could have the entire SmartMoves plan* up and running in 18 months if it were just basic bus service. That, of course, would require a significant new investment in operating funds from the region (not just KCMO and a smattering of municipalities agreeing to bare bones service.
* This is the high-level regional transit plan you've apparently ignored that has been slowly implemented since its inception. Here's that implementation plan.

Canceling service the plan relies on isn’t the way to implement the planDaveKCMO wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 4:27 pm You'll have a more detailed funding plan in about six months. Details coming next week.

Ride KC Next is canceling service explicitly listed as being upgraded to 30 minute service in the plan and requires adding new 30 minute service even deeper into the suburbs. Your posts basically ridicule smart moves for years now, saying it’s unrealistic because there’s no ridership. This plan says to grow bus demand by doubling down

One I recognized was renumbered from 121 to 21 but the name is the same.
