This sucks.

I wonder if it has anything to do with planning for city club. Running three restaurants during covid must be impossible, and obviously things are going to collapse during winter when cases go back up and you can't sit outside.

I hope they can reopen in the future.

Not the first time 1924 Main has lost a restaurant. Hoping something new in that space will happen quickly. It was a great run.

Probably. Think of it as a new restaurant concept from same chef that moved somewhere else rather than same spot. Rieger had a good long run. Something else could eventually go in there when conditions improve.

It’s hard, she’s always in the kitchen.

My bet is they come back in the same space, same concept.

Their parking lot on the corner is a prime spot. A building there with a combined first floor restaurant redo with larger dining and kitchen space would be ideal.

My company occupies about one-fourth of One Kansas City Place (maybe one-third of the leased space). Per the latest company news, we aren't coming back downtown until summer 2021. These long, large absences must be affecting downtown retail pretty significantly.

Should be interesting to see which places survive on just downtown residents, regional staycations, and a smattering of events for the next year.

And what is formed as a result.

A huge amount of small business creation comes out of challenging years. There's nothing like losing your job to create a need to make your own job.

The next 10 years could be very interesting for business. Cities that can grab the next round of jobs will do very well.

Beer Kitchen is closing at the end of the month and won't reopen until "the spring"

Obviously, this isn't a full-on casualty (as of now) but we've heard similar promises from others before they closed permanently, so I figured it was worth a mention. I imagine Beer Kitchen won't be the last to announce a winter hibernation.

Mixx P&L. Surprised it lasted this long. I enjoyed it but their hours were messed up.

GoJo's
Honestly I'm kind of glad, the place was awful, it really just appealed to the suburban crowd. The building was in rough shape, place felt dirty, I thought the food was very bland.

Temporary P&L casualties include County Road Ice House, Pizza Bar, and most of the upper level of the Live! block.

County Road is the biggest loss for the neighborhood. The others are obviously going to go dark especially with 10pm closings.
