OFFICIAL - Grand Place (former KC Star building)
Re: OFFICIAL - Grand Place (former KC Star building)
While I am in love with that protected bike lane, those two curb cuts on Grand have to go. Drivers would block that bike lane all day every day trying to pull out onto Grand. And why is the garage entrance on Grand when the parking lot currently utilizes 17th St?

Grand Place will feature "The Boiler Room." This sounds like something I could see myself visiting a few times per year but not enough to justify a membership. Partner this with a gym and I would subscribe in a heart beat.
Deep in the basement, you'll find perhaps the most intriguing space at Grand Place, the former Boiler Room. With soaring ceilings, a suspended glass lap pool, and a sauna in the base of the building's 80-foot boiler tower, the new Boiler Room will be the best escape in the city.
Members will have access to an upscale barbershop, salt soaking tubs, full service spa, lounge and locker room with a private Grand Boulevard entrance via a direct elevator and a terrazzo staircase.

The suspended glass lap pool sounds interesting to me. This is going to be a fancy place.

New drawings out for the front underground parking garage and plaza. Also, some renderings that I don't think we've seen yet, from the website.

Is it just me or has the building footprint been reduced significantly?

Yes, it appears they are putting the office building on hold for now.

What's the ultimate concept for this place? All along, I've envisioned a KC version of the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

That would be a worthwhile goal.

I hope this project is worth the wait. Seems like it will be a cool place with everything they want to do with it. It seems to me construction is taking a while but at least it hasn't stopped.

This thing has been under construction for a while -- any tentative opening date on the horizon?
Re: OFFICIAL - Grand Place (former KC Star building)
Podcast indicated it took them two full years just remove stuff The Star had stored there. Previous articles indicated January 2020 completion, but with none of the new construction complete I suspect they'll focus on the existing building until the economy rebounds?

City scene has an update out. Looks like the cool food hall, concept they planned as a separate structure is now going inside the Star building. I really liked the renderings they shared before for the corner of 18th & Grand. Hope they still plan to use that space for something awesome to serve as the usher into the Crossroads along 18th St.
