Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?
This is turning our pretty nicely. Not being from KC, I was surprised to see how far off the path the West Bottoms really is. I thought it was a direct neighbor to Downtown like the Crossroads, Quality Hill, and River Market. I do believe that this neighborhood can become it's own strong community. If the Flats project does well, I expect more buildings to be redeveloped overtime.

Looking much better than late December. So much potential in the West Bottoms. Hopefully this is the start to many more projects that will populate this area.

KC never had a Funicular.
That’s a system where one car works as a counterweight to the other, running on a single fixed cable between each vehicle and the train only runs on the incline.
The 9th St incline was a standard cable railway where the trains continued on past the incline on both ends.
A brand new funicular would be fun to have today.

Solid looking project. The area needs several more of these, you just need someone with ambition and the money to do so.

According to Kevin Collison's story today, the project is officially completed and 35 units have been leaded so far. the developer say that's great considering the ongoing situation.

So more is to come down here and I'm glad they're advancing ahead to renovate more buildings. I look forward to seeing those plans soon. The mixture of office is interesting in itself. So good, that MCM plans to expand the project by renovating an additional two building additions on the west end of the sprawling Abernathy along West Ninth Street, adding another 80- to 90 units.
The firm also has a purchase agreement for the 920 Wyoming building with plans to convert it to office and other commercial uses.

As long as development continues down here, there is going to be some viability in the future to a 12th street Street Car line.

In the meantime, KCATA proposes 15m frequency on 12th Street through the bottoms connecting our two downtowns -- KCMO + KCK.Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 12:17 am As long as development continues down here, there is going to be some viability in the future to a 12th street Street Car line.

I’m definitely pro any increased frequency. The town I live in currently in Italy has headway’s of 10 min at peak, and mind you this area has the population of Olathe. Shows what mixed use and density get you.DaveKCMO wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:25 amIn the meantime, KCATA proposes 15m frequency on 12th Street through the bottoms connecting our two downtowns -- KCMO + KCK.Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 12:17 am As long as development continues down here, there is going to be some viability in the future to a 12th street Street Car line.

Here is a building that I believe is new to the market - the Laramie Tires Building at 1201 Union. Looks like it could have good potential. 120,000 sq ft:

The Laramie Tires building will be very attractive after the exterior is cleaned up.

That brick courtyard looks very nice. It will be really pleasant once those trees mature.
