Capping the Loop
Re: Capping the Loop
You can’t make Grand the car sewer if it’s frequently closed for Sprint Center events. Walnut is the relief valve for those instances. If you take away Walnut, then most of the Grand traffic will go on Main and gum up the streetcar. Oak is too far out of the way for people that have Midland or PnL plugged into their GPS.
Re: Capping the Loop
I would like to see the capped block between Grand and Walnut designed to serve as an alternate to closing off Grand to traffic. Virtually all European cities and towns have a square, place, platz, or piazza. These spaces, surrounded by buildings, are not landscaped but paved with hard surface. They are used for just about any kind of gathering and do not suffer from hard use. Here are the Christmas markets, political demonstrations, football celebrations, even horse races. Pave this block and landscape the others. It could have a big bronze heart in the middle to mark the Heart of America or even a spiral of yellow bricks.

Agreed. Love it but no closing streets.

Re: Capping the Loop
Needs a lot more park benches/seating than shown but conceptually a good start. Can mature over the years.

Re: Capping the Loop
Yeah there is a lot of rendering porn in there. No way it's programmed that amenity heavy.

I always assumed it would go all the way to Oak. Not the case?

Re: Capping the Loop
I'm getting really annoyed at all these proposals that result in closing through streets inside the Loop. I don't see the point of it.

Re: Capping the Loop
It looks like the street is mostly a wide pedestrian through way. It’s not even like they are really using the space for anything.

Re: Capping the Loop
I know I’m the minority, but I don’t mind them closing one street to make more continuous park space. Why are cars always the priority? Take Grand or Main or Oak. This should it hurt traffic in any considerable way.

Re: Capping the Loop
Won’t someone think about the cars????
Re: Capping the Loop
It's looking more and more like Cordish and Loews will be mostly financing this. So it will be amenity heavy. Notice the dog park for example.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 8:58 am Yeah there is a lot of rendering porn in there. No way it's programmed that amenity heavy.
Re: Capping the Loop
Yeah, to put on events for downtown residents and to encourage non-downtown residents to visit downtown. They don't just close it for the hell of it. They also have to pay to close it and spend hundreds of thousands putting on public events out there. What did people think a entertainment district would do? Not entertain?

Re: Capping the Loop
It was cited as a reason to not close of walnut. That's it.DColeKC wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 1:06 pmYeah, to put on events for downtown residents and to encourage non-downtown residents to visit downtown. They don't just close it for the hell of it. They can add the street into the plans. No reason why they shouldn't.
