Tenant Bill of Rights

Post by Riverite »

Hi sorry if this has already been posted, but what is happening with this tenant bill of rights? Are they trying to stop background checks and credit checks?

Kansas City Council passes tenant bill of rights
...
The measure puts some conditions on how landlords can handle a prospective tenant's rental payment history. It bars landlords from denying renters who have a criminal record, just on that basis alone.

I don't understand what this does. If the tenant has a shady history and the tenant doesn't pay rent for 5 months can the person not be kicked out by the landlord?

It really does nothing. It’s a restatement of state law already on the books. It does give free legal representation to tenants but doesn’t say how it’s going to be paid for.
