Overland Park recently spend $9270 for 37 racks. So it's a minimum of about $250 per.

$1000 would get you 2-3 racks.
Thank you. Let's call it $10,000.

Incredibly, that's not a horrible idea.

Putting a canal into the industrial district south of the airport wouldn't be the worst idea ever. If it comes in from the NW along the Platte River watershed the grade for locks wouldn't be horrible.

Could earmark space for public docks at the airport. KC doesn't have any today and it would protect boats from river flooding.

Don't forget the spaceship docks and alien customs / interplanetary arrivals, and the unicorn stables.

Space X will probably have to look further from a populated area to land. Too much risk of explosions.

The unicorn stables are in Swope Park, the zoo shows them off in this program.

Then in the particularly unlikely event that it is in use and some other person shows up with a bike, tell them they win the most improbable flyer award and name the airport after them.
You honestly can't see the use case of a worker biking from their house to the 229 bus, then needing a place to store said bike once they get to the airport?

I get it, there are only a handful of fliers that would ever have a bike they need to secure at KCI but damn, it's not a big investment to at least make that option available in this project.

we begged on here that they HAVE to plan for rail coming into the terminal even though we know that's a pipe dream in the life of this building but we can't get behind adding 5k in bike racks?

I don't care if they spend some money on bike racks, I just think it's amusing. I can see the use case, I just can't see it happening in reality. I've already had to hear excessive bellyaching about how they're putting in bike lanes up north. BUT MAH TRAFFIC! MAH CAR!

Bless their hearts.

It will be more interesting to see if free fare bus occurs and if it would be used more to airport. Though it would also need to run more often from downtown.

I think we're understimating how many KCI employees take the bus to their job and how many more we could capture with free bus, more frequent service, and ability to store their bike once they get there.

Sure those who do take their bikes up there now or in 2024 will probably just find some fence to chain up to but like someone else said, I think it's a good message to send to include proper bike facilities in our new 50-75 year building.

It's interesting to see so early in the process how city staff can just dismiss standing codes/ordinances out of hand and nobody says a word.

This. Again, bike parking is not optional for any building, it's mandatory.

At the very least put some nice two level racks in a corner of the garage that can hold them dense and a bike can be locked to, stick a camera on it and add it to a security staff loop

KCAD is now studying the implementation of an APM from the new terminal to the CONRAC.

Note that the proposed APM Station at the new terminal & parking garage is/was where light rail was planned to go.

They presented this to committee a few weeks ago. Had graphics showing a new economy lot close to the rental car facility as well that would use the APM.

At the airport this morning. Ghost town. Apparently they are saving their pennies on maintenance. Place looks like shit and the escalator to the food court is still broken. How many months now?
