The value seems fair, even a little low compared to the appraisal we got this summer. So we are not fighting it. It was absurdly low for almost a decade.

I'd hope that he would have lost it because he's secretive and combative... but you're probably right. But reducing the taxing rate is the school board's call. That's who I meant has escaped scrutiny.

The school board already decided they will not reduce the rate. I think the city did, but only because they were required to by state statute.

Yes, and not reducing their rate will all but kill the school boards chance of getting their bond initiative passed.

Is 1969 still the last bond issue that was passed? It was for a long time. If that's still true they probably didn't have much chance in the first place.

That was probably the last time they built a new school.

They built a bunch in the 1980's, with the deseg money. Central and Paseo HS both date from that era.

They might have been updated then, but they were built many, many decades before the 90s.

A Missouri legislative committee has proposed a series of reforms to the state’s property tax system in response to this year’s reassessment process, where thousands of homeowners who saw their values spike filed a record number of appeals with Jackson County.

The recommendations won’t help taxpayers facing onerous tax bills this winter as a result of those big increases. But the committee’s chairman, Rep. J. Eggleston, R-Maysville, said in an interview that the changes would make the property tax system fairer for homeowners across the state. They would also see a tighter lid on tax increases, some of which are influenced by quirks in the law that treat taxpayers differently, depending on where they live.
