I like Bristol. I don't like this apparent dumbing down.

$10 says the menu now calls appetizers "shareables".

As long as they don't screw up their Sunday brunch and they still serve scallops and steaks at our annual company holiday party, I don't care how they position themselves.

This seems...fine? I don't get the outrage of successful restaurant moving to better serve the customers they're seeing.
Seems like a good sign that places are adapting to downtown now instead of behind them to just open up.

For me, it's because The Bristol is one of THE Kansas City restaurants. It has history, a reputation, name recognition and decades of equity built into their brand.
They can (and should) better serve their customers by.... better serving their customers. Throwing random words to the end of the restaurant's name to better market towards the latest trend de jour is just sad.
Go ahead and make changes - put your bartenders in those silly vests - offer tons of craft cocktails ... you can do all of this without messing with the brand.

They took all the equity and sold it in 2015 to a NYC-based company.WSPanic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 12:32 pm For me, it's because The Bristol is one of THE Kansas City restaurants. It has history, a reputation, name recognition and decades of equity built into their brand.

The new owners brought in a new CEO who had previously run Applebees and TGI Fridays.
That should tell you a lot.

I've had some very good experiences there since the sale. But, I get what you're saying.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 3:25 pmThey took all the equity and sold it in 2015 to a NYC-based company.WSPanic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 12:32 pm For me, it's because The Bristol is one of THE Kansas City restaurants. Kaldi closing per sign on the door. This is disappointing. A solid 7 day a week place for quality coffee and people watching.

That is odd as it's usually pretty steady biz, though maybe not at level of Starbucks across street.

I think it's a Kaldi's thing - they only have the two Plaza locations left. Hopefully another cafe will move in.

C'mon Starbucks, the world needs more instances of this Lewis Black bit.
(Assuming Scooter's wants to try downtown again, they'd be the obvious choice to take over that space.)

Word is that Scooter's no longer intends to operate any stores without drive thrus.swid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 3:33 pm C'mon Starbucks, the world needs more instances of this Lewis Black bit.

I am also told that the Kaldi on State Line is closing--so this sounds like it might be a Kaldi thing as noted above.

I'd second what SMH said about scooters but I'm quite sure we heard it from the same source
