Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
They were taking out one of the bomb planters today, and had two people dangling down the side working on something.
So it looks like something is finally happening here.

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
I was wondering when they would remove the bomb planters. They should keep a few of them for landscaping purposes, and donate the remaining ones to the City to place at various locations around downtown that need landscaping.
What should be done with these pedestal things? Placed in parks to sit on?

Don't you think the planters and pedestals are really barricades? I'm thinking they are anchored and will be destroyed in the removal process.

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
It's possible. I think the planters were placed atop concrete slabs on the sidewalk. I can't remember when they added how it was done. They may just break them all apart to get rid of them.
Woodraw, what did you mean by "taking out?" Breaking apart in chunks, or lifting the planters up intact, and hauling away?

Crushing to concrete death. But they were only doing one.

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
Yeah, this is why I called them bomb planters. They were going at this thing hard. I don't think they're being saved, but I only saw one destroyed today to be clear.
Might just be for construction reasons.

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
If I were the property owner, I would keep a few of them for landscaping purposes --assuming they don't need to demolish all of them for construction access. Certainly get rid of the ones in front of the doors, and on the corner that just block pedestrian flow.
Since there are so few trees on Grand, it makes me wonder if there is a reason under the sidewalks--like access tunnels for steam pipes. So, if that is the case, then sidewalk planters might be the only option.
That said, Grand desperately needs more trees, and landscaping.

I think they're pretty gross and wouldn't mind them all going. I agree on landscaping though.
I keep waiting for kc or the star to report on this but I haven't seen anything. I'll keep taking pictures if anything happens. I'm going to try to convince a worker to let me do a hard hat tour once they start the main lobby.

Looks like they're getting ready to pour concrete, perhaps for a crane base?WoodDraw wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:06 am Anyone know wtf this thing is?

Is there any chance this work is to remove a sidewalk vault?

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)
I talked to a construction worker and he told me they're doing hotel work. He didn't know which brand.
This place is on heavy development. I have pictures of them going into all of the doors (the construction workers were like wtf is this interesting but graciously let me take pictures).
I'll post later if anyone is interested.

Also, kcp, get ready for your 311 calls because I give this place a zero percent chance of complying with code.
