I also saw signs for Black Sheep on 39th Street, i think its taking the old AEP Thai Spot. How have we not hit some kind of restaurant bubble? Are we just getting so many new people into the city and visitors that we can support all of these? Some places have got to be hurting right?

That’s a ton of new places, especially in the Crossroads. Is there enough demand for them all? Could get much more competitive soon.

La Esquina was the Charlotte Street arts facility in the east end of the building that housed Speak Deli.

Not encouraging. Hours listed to 9:30pm. As we've all discussed a thousand times, the worst thing a retail business can have is inconsistent hours. If I can't count on you being open then you almost immediately fall off my mental list of restaurants.

Been to Kimchi twice. Was disappointed in the entrees. However appetizers were excellent. Service good, owner attentive, pleasant space.

Velvet Freeze opened at least 2 months ago and I think closer to 3. I'm not sure why it keeps showing up as "No opening date was available" on this list. (I haven't been, but the owner was quickly responsive when I asked them a question online.)

So, this is now some chicken place called Poi-o.

They have a very sparse facebook (https://www.facebook.com/poiokc/) page and a link to a website that doesn't exist (www.poiokc.com). Nothing on yelp.

Saw someone post that their fire roasted chicken is awesome - it seems to be their thing. And, per facebook, this is a creation of Carlos Mortera - formerly of Michael Smith and Bite.

From the minutes of internet research I've done, this sounds a little like El Pollo Rey style, but not sure at all. Hope to try it soon.

That name comes off as cheesy, but hopefully the food won't be as Anglicized. It would be good to have a Mexican chicken option a little closer.

I'm not sure why some of the KCK/Independence Ave Mexican joints don't look at expanding into more gringo neighborhoods. I think if some place like El Pollo Rey, El Torito, San Antiono (even just the taqueria portion) opened in Midtown, they would kill it. The only such foray I can think of is Hamburguesa Los Compas on Linwood, which is not bad, but not on the level of most spots in the barrios.
