Re: Three Light
No. i think it is just being introduced this week(?) Which just means that the ordinance will be filed and listed on the full council's docket as "first readings" today and then referred to committee for discussion next week (or some later time). So, theoretically a rendering may be available (or description at least) later today when the full council's docket is posted on the clerks website.

Oh, sorry, that's St. Louis. Really starting to look like they hired an architect to design the same building over and over with slightly different shapes

We must start a petition initiative to have the renderings released.

They're gonna build a wall of glass across the state and make Mexico, Missouri pay for it.flyingember wrote:Here you go.kboish wrote: So, theoretically a rendering may be available (or description at least) later today when the full council's docket is posted on the clerks website.

Re: Three Light
No rendering. Just an ordinance authorizing the city to appropriate funds that the city is obligated to contribute to the project ($17.5 million).

Re: Three Light
Can’t someone just photoshop a ‘Three’ over the Two Light sign and call the rendering good?

Can they not just accidentally post 1 on KCRAG?

Re: Three Light
I still think a stylized 3 would look nice. Something like the 3 mobile logo from the UK:

Maybe on a retro low-res digital sign like H&R Block?

Maybe the font of the numbers could get increasingly bold from building to building. The consistency is already ruined, so we might as well embrace it.

Re: Three Light
After watching and waiting on downtown KC development since 1982, I can't believe people are fussing and fretting over a font on the sign on a high-rise residential building.

I love that people come to a one city focused development forum and are surprised that some of us have strong opinions about design. It's fantastic.

Re: Three Light
I don't have a big issue with the uniformity of the buildings, I just think it's odd that the signs don't match despite the matching architecture. I was just offering a way of turning that into a nice pattern. I realize it's a very trivial thing.StrangerThings wrote:“The consistency is already ruined” and the next breath, “I hate that the buildings look similar!”
That being said, these are going to be prominent buildings that will be occupying a big chunk of the skyline, so I think some extra aesthetic scrutiny is warranted.

Re: Three Light
^^^ If KC continues to grow then these buildings will be covered up.
We must remember that there are MANY other places and ways for people to invest their money that would provide them better returns. Yet, they still choose to take a risk on KC. We can not be picky over something so trivial as the design and signage or a relatively nice high rise apartment building. We can’t even get local businesses and banks to take big risks in downtown yet.
Yes, I do think as KC develops we should strive for greatness. When 1 Light was announced I was amazed that something like that was being built in KC. Yet now Two and what may be Three light are a bit boring. But we can’t reach Mars without stopping at the moon.

Re: Three Light
I agree that the very existence of these projects is amazing, but I think it's worth getting the discussion on their design started early so that by the time we reach the proverbial Mars we can have an informed discussion on the topic. I don't think anybody is outright rejecting these buildings in their entirety when they criticize them, they just see things that could be improved.
