Just saw on the Development Tracker that Cerner has filled for a "Final UR Plan" at the Trails Campus. It didn't have any files attached at the time so I have no information on it other than a couple numbers...

A previous plat filled for the properties showed "Non-Residential Square Feet: 11,700,341" while this recent filling showed "Non-Residential Square Feet: 12,512,555." Does this mean the project is getting bigger? Who knows?

This could be something to watch for in the future.

Curious, 11M-12M sqft would be unprecedented even on a national scale. In comparison, Hudson Yards project in NYC is 6M sqft office and considered massive, though I think long term a 20M mixed use project and not a single company. Sounds fishy but at the rate Cerner is going, they could be thinking about future expansion beyond the current plan and coming up with that number as a possibility for say a 20+ year plan. Still unprecedented for a single biz services company in one location if true.

Do you have a link?

Would be so nice if this were doubling downtown space instead.

There was no link. I'm assuming those numbers must be square footage of the total property area because those numbers seemed WAY too big.

On another topic, heard that Cerner is reimbursing employees $5K on buying a home if within 3 miles of new campus. True?

If it's true, I sure haven't gotten that memo yet...

I would imagine it's for new associates that they are recruiting and giving signing bonuses/relocation help to and not just anyone that works there. I'm at the older South KC campus, but actually moving back up to WHQ in North KC in a few weeks.

Are they offering to reimburse their employees for private schools as well? $5K isn't exactly a large enough incentive to make it worth any family to put their kids though the Hickman Mills School District. Any family moving there from elsewhere in suburbia would also lose any suburban convince like nearby shopping and such since their job is literally sitting on top of what was one of the metros premier shopping destinations 30 years ago. They'd have to drive to Independence, Leawood, or Lee's Summit for much besides Home Depot since even Kmart called it quits.

Microsoft is joining the $Billions+ new HQ campus club, over 6M sqft. Not a whole lot better design than Cerner's but not so much the isolated train wreck. Will have light rail access. Heavy emphasis on outdoor life rather than hirises, like treehouse workspaces.

Kind of reminds me of the Sprint campus. Get there and everything is walkable.

Lee's Summit wants to annex 96 acres from KC for the Paragon Star project and they they are expecting it to be given away for free. Maybe in return, LS could allow a small portion of KCMO around the border to attend LS schools.

The exchange is that the Paragon Star development will be building the long-planned extension of View High parkway to Bannister. Lee's Summit Schools already extends into KCMO all along the west side of Lees Summit. North of 470 it reaches all the way to Noland road. There is even an elementary school in KCMO proper, Summit Point.

Also, all of Paragon Star is in the Hickman School district.

School districts don't follow city boundaries, a small portion of the LS district is in KCMO city limits

Not to derail much further from the topic, but it'll be interesting to see if we start seeing cities trade land for development opportunities. Unity Village gave up everything south of Bannister to Lee's Summit a few years ago (except the apartment complex that holds most of the village population) with the caveat it has to be developed in a certain amount of years.

Heard this week from members of JE Dunn that "phase two" (buildings 3 and 4) will break ground in spring, sometime around March.

Not sure if I'm posting this image correctly, but for reference, buildings 3 and 4 are the two buildings to the right of the two recently constructed buildings in the middle of the campus.
