That ratio can mean a number of things and undoubtedly different things for the different cities.

Notable in this list is the fact that none of the top 10 cities are in the Sun Belt.

KCMO listed first, mwahahaha. Should have included metro population as well to give better context.

KC best/lowest unemployment rate for Millennials of top 40 markets, tied with Denver for #1. The list also shows metros with % of Millennials living at home. KC ranked 8th of 40 markets living on their own, up there with other hot markets like Austin, Denver, Portland, Seattle, etc. And KC's overall Millennial median income is pretty good compared to many larger markets.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
A net growth of 20K for KC metro for the year is more inline with KC's hotter years but not at 22K+ level of some years. The last several years have averaged about 16K/yr so improving. MO side of KC is picking up more recently while KS side not on par with past. Maybe KS will pick back up with moderates if Brownback gets UN post.
Sad to see that STL metro actually shows a lost for the year. STL city and county show losses at times but this is the first I think for whole metro to show a loss for one year. Ferguson effect?
Here's the Wiki list of all metros with 2016 update. KC metro still ranked 30, passed up by Vegas but KC passed Cleveland. Austin catching up to KC very quickly. Cincy is only metro KC has a shot at to pass up and may take a while.

Looks like it made it to the print version of the NY Times. Somebody on reddit was claiming it was definitely paid for by Visit KC and questioned whether the writer ever stepped foot in KC, but I have no real info on that.

Not that anyone actually cares, but I was just talking to Doris Graves of the Gathering Place the other day (she's mentioned in the article), and she remembered selling that jacket to him. So I think he was here.
