Feel free to move this if there is a better thread for it, but received an email from the Nextdoor app to inform area residents that the proposal for a new apartment building on Rainbow will be held in March. After a little digging, I found the following:

Not in KCK but I've also noticed signs in peoples yards in Westwood along County Line Rd saying something like no medium density housing.

Re: KCK - Rainbow Blvd
A plan to develop the NW corner of 39th/Rainbow (where the strip mall and vietnamese restaurant are) stalls due to opposition from KU Med, the Hall Foundation and Lane4. Plan is for a hotel, but would be competition for the Holiday Inn Express in the Lane4 buildings to the south, and KU Med/Hall Foundation are concerned about parking, size of development and traffic.
I like the overall plan, but can understand that the footprint may be too big for location and the development should adhere to the same standards as the new buildings to the south. Hopefully they can address the parking issue and set the building back to allow for wider sidewalks, but feels a little bit like the opposition is trying to strong arm what gets built.
