That would be good news and do you know if they can finance the portion that is being sought from the private sector?DaveKCMO wrote:i believe i heard there was an option to just finance the entire thing and not rely on state cash.

interesting that it's the first choice, since they've used that building for presentations. the one i'd choose first is the building on central that's basically the last homeless camp in the neighborhood.KCDowntown wrote:Pre-demolition permit issued today for Griner & Schmitz building at 1701 Broadway.

I came across this building, and though one similar would be a good candidate for the UMKC Conservatory. I like the material they used to wrap the structure.

The newest gifts bring UMKC to $38 million of the $48 million it needs to raise from private sources by June 30. That’s the deadline to apply for state funds to cover the remainder of the $96 million project that aims to build a new Conservatory of Music and Dance.

So this has quietly achieved its fundraising goal. They need to get a matching grant from the state legislature during the next session (which is supposedly very likely) and then everything will be a go.

Peter Witte spoke at KCDowntowners luncheon on 8/10. Shared renderings courtesy of helix, pretty promising (follow the timeline of the DT Twitter account for pics: https://twitter.com/KCDowntowners)
They will ask the state for funds when the FY17 session begins. He said, in a perfect world, they would welcome students in 2020. So a rough timeline would lead to a budget approval in 2017 and construction to follow for a few years before opening to students.

Not sure what has happened in the last month, but I did speak with a friend of the Los Tules owners who mentioned they have been offered quite a bit to sell their place.DaveKCMO wrote:someone posted this on reddit. wasn't aware UMKC was planning to do anything on the west side of broadway, but i do know strahm plans to sell.
