Post by FangKC »

Due to increased demand for their beer, Boulevard Brewery will expand its' brewing capacity by installing larger fermentation tanks--expanding their capacity by 20 percent.

I love the fact that it appears El Dorado is working for beer (a "trade of services contract")

OK, but the post from the El Dorado page says "We?re excited to be working with Boulevard, and we plan to celebrate when our proposed ?trade of services? contract has been fully executed."

Perhaps they were being tongue-in-cheek.

Boulevard Brewery owner sells majority stake to Belgian Co.

Post by FangKC »

John McDonald has sold his majority stake in Boulevard Brewery to a Belgian brewing company. He'll remain involved in running the brewery and the management team remains intact.

I was just there today for a tour of the brewery and at first they stated that they couldn't provide tours today, but since I was with 12 people total they made an exception and gave us a short form tour. Now I know why and at least it's with another brewer that seems like it has a similar culture.

Bitter sweet day, but I can't really think of any other brewers I would rather have taking the reigns (don't really know much outside of the bigger conglomerates). I also love Ommegang's stuff, so the portfolio is quite solid now. We have been and continue to be so lucky to have Boulevard in our city.

McDonald was on the news saying the merger would allow Boulevard to finance expansion faster, and hopefully create more jobs.

Agreed that while I liked Boulevard's independent status, it looked like this was done pragmtically with everybody's interest in mind.
And all things considered, Duvel seems like a pretty decent company.

The deal, announced Thursday afternoon, is expected to close before the end of the year. While terms were not disclosed, industry sources have estimated its value as at least $100 million.

Boulevard Brewery has purchased the former Skelly Building from DST for their expanded visitor center.

Boulevard goes big with plans for new visitor center
Realizing it needs a major expansion of its visitor center to keep up with demand, Boulevard Brewing Co. bought the neighboring Skelly Oil Building and plans to turn it into a new visitor center.

...

When the four-story Skelly building at 2534 Madison Ave. became available, Boulevard was immediately interested in it and was able to come to terms to acquire it.

"We got lucky that this beautiful old building right next the brewery became available, and we were able to acquire it," Krum said.

The building, which was originally constructed in 1929, was bought by DST Systems Inc. in 1995. The Kansas City-based tech company (NYSE: DST) did a massive renovation to turn it into office space, but DST has been trying to refocus on its core business and is shedding its other investments. The building was one of the assets it put on the market.

Boulevard plans to convert the first floor into an "Experience" area with exhibits about the history of beer and the brewery, along with an expanded retail shop and a much larger tasting room. The second floor will be converted into a 10,000-square-foot beer hall featuring Boulevard's beers and a limited selection of food.

I could have sworn there was a thread somewhere that mentioned the new distribution warehouse for Boulevard at 87th and US71...if there is I can't find it. Anyway...I found some info on the building http://www.commonwealthinc.com/location ... -warehouse. Construction isn't finished yet, I talked to one of the workers there today and he said the electric lines were just hooked up but water and gas have not been hooked up yet.

It's not open yet, right? Seems like it's been "any day now" for the past couple months.
