Sort of an implication that he owns/controls the workhouse and water station. Wonder if these folks are still involved http://www.2ormore.org/

I think they are working together as partners. Dixon owns the parcel, and Daniel Edwards and his wife run the foundation that is helping to clean up and repurpose the Castle building.grovester wrote:Sort of an implication that he owns/controls the workhouse and water station. The Kauffman Foundation has awarded a $500,000 grant to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and part of this grant will help finish renovating the former Paseo YMCA into the Buck O'Neil Education and Research Center.

Re: 18th and Vine
Going forward, the Eastside will have a much greater influence from the eastern suburbs than the city to the west. If you spend any time around Truman and Independence, the residential neighborhoods are already recent developments. Especially the blocks around 24th Street.
Another brick building is coming down on the southeast corner of 18th & Prospect- that intersection now has no unique properties.
There is no energy for preservation in the area. Alot of talk about history but no backing. Fair enough

What you know about this situation?harbinger911 wrote:This story is ridiculous. This guy doesn't have 2 nickels to rub together.
Instead of listing it for sale, the city scammed and "gave" him (his "foundation") the workhouse for $1.
3 paragraphs of no details, no accomplishments and no $$.

Harbinger911, you don't think there are scammers among the GOP? Look at all the military waste that is going on. We wasted 1 Trillion on the F-35 and the plane doesn't even fricking working.

Re: 18th and Vine
Just drove around the 18th & Vine District and I saw that the building at the southeast corner of 18th and Highland had a fence around it. Hope it's not the infamous "Fence of Death" that has done in many other historic buildings all over town. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
I haven't looked on Kiva but when I pulled up Google Streetview I saw the fence on it too so it's been here for at least a while.

The Downtown Council is overseeing restoration of that building, the Boone Theater, as a cultural arts space and the new headquarters for Folk Alliance International.

That will clear up a prime spot a block from a train stop. They're clearly a quality org but they never seemed to fit into the location.

Re: 18th and Vine
Jazz District boosters seek $7 million for improvements
http://www.kansascity.com/news/governme ... 26920.html
Among the requests and preliminary cost estimates:
▪ $1.5 million for an open-air plaza and fountain on the south side of 18th Street between the Paseo and Vine Street, to serve as the western gateway to the district.
▪ $1 million to complete several floors of the Buck O’Neil Center, which has already had considerable private investment from Ollie Gates and other donors. The center, near 19th and the Paseo, is in the former Paseo YMCA.
▪ $2 million to help fund a new headquarters and performing arts center for the Kansas City Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, on 18th Street between Highland and Woodland avenues. The public-private partnership would include preserving the Boone Theater facade.
▪ $750,000 for new exhibits for the American Jazz Museum, 1616 E. 18th St.; $750,000 for the Black Archives, 1722 E. 17th Terrace; $200,000 for the Lincoln Building, 1601 E. 18th St.; and $140,000 for the Mutual Musicians Foundation at 1823 Highland Ave.
Funding would also be provided to do some strategic demolitions, including the vacant Black Chamber of Commerce building, 1501 E. 18th St., and to improve the amphitheater behind the Jazz Museum.
