Re: 20th Street Streetscape
It's going out for design - build, so I guess that would involve a re-design. I hope El Dorado gets it again!!

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
The concept could remain the same. Design in this case may be talking about things like storm & sanitary sewer design, street & sidewalk grading, utility work and other nitty-gritty details that aren't necessary to flesh out the aesthetic concept.

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
project should be out to bid for construction soon, with work beginning by summer in coordination with downtown streetcar. due to the massive amount of water infrastructure east of grand, the phase 1 project will stop just shy of grand (leaving sw blvd to walnut as the completed first phase).

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
Good news, I guess? Seems to be getting delayed with regularity. I'm really looking forward to this; it will make my multiple daily dashes across 20th St. much safer and more enjoyable.
Side note - Drivers FLY down 20th with little regard for pedestrians. Lately, the KCPD has set up multiple speed traps. They're pulling someone over every few minutes between Main and Wyandotte.

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
demolition of the "walnut flyover" -- initially conceived for the 20th street project, then expedited for the new hotel at 20th & main -- is out to bid.

From the KC Star today: Kansas City Council considers how to spend streetcar planning funds
Assistant City Manager Pat Klein said those projects include nearly $2 million for a new roof for Bartle Hall; $2.23 million for a tornado shelter and gym at Garrison Community Center, a project that is also getting federal funds; and about $800,000 for streetscape improvements along 20th Street from Southwest Boulevard to McGee Street. It makes sense, he said, to do that work while 20th Street is already torn up for the downtown streetcar route.

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
Interesting news in that blurb about Garrison Community Center - $2M would build a heck of a gym.
Might be a nice addition for Columbus Park and Northeast residents?

I think there was a lot of expensive sewer work that would have to be done east of McGee, which is why the current project stop there.

Bids for the work came back higher than predicted so this additional money would fill the gap.
