Uptown Shoppes
Couldn't find a specific topic on the Uptown Shoppes, so thought I'd start one. Papa Murphy's Pizza sign was up when I drove by yesterday.

Re: Uptown Shoppes
Whole Foods is building a new Whole Foods in midtown Detroit, i really think our midtown is somewhat similar to Detroit's. If they could build a whole foods in that location, i think it would be a game changer for that whole area, who knows maybe the seedy plasma center would move away.

They have plans to build one near UMKC and negotiation ingress/egress issues on Brookside Blvd.

Re: Uptown Shoppes
what is the latest on this? are they actively negotiating these ingress/egress issues or is the plan stalled? we are very, very tired of schlepping out to metcalf to go to WF.taxi wrote:They have plans to build one near UMKC and negotiation ingress/egress issues on Brookside Blvd.

Re: Uptown Shoppes
Midtown KC is decidedly more intact than midtown Detroit. Detroit is weird because it is a pretty damn big metro with a degree of wealth and a horribly under/de-developed urban core so there are bound to be weird things like a Whole Foods popping up in a torn up area. Midtown is pretty much it as far as meaningful redevelopment energy outside of downtown Detroit.brewcrew1000 wrote:Whole Foods is building a new Whole Foods in midtown Detroit, i really think our midtown is somewhat similar to Detroit's.

New sign up today: MESOB Ethiopian and Caribbean Cuisine. I'm going to out on a limb and give this place 6 months...7 if they change their name.

Wonder if it is connected to the "Mesob Pikliz" Ethiopian & Haitian Cuisine restaurant on Independence Ave.kcjak wrote:New sign up today: MESOB Ethiopian and Caribbean Cuisine. I'm going to out on a limb and give this place 6 months...7 if they change their name.
If so, they have pretty good food, hope it succeeds.

Have you tried it? I see it every day on my way to work and I'm fond of the Blue Nile. I'd love to have a good Ethiopian place lunch-distance from my office.brewcrew1000 wrote:There is an Ethiopian place on 34th and main, awaze

I perfer Awaze to Blue Nile myself (although I like them both). I find Awaze to generally be a bit more spicy and flavorful, but it can be inconsistent.

Re: Uptown Shoppes
Mesob is the same operation that was known as Mesob Piklez and was open for a couple of years on Independence Avenue.
They served some of the most unique, delicious food in town, at very reasonable prices.
I'm hopeful that they are keeping much of the same menu, as no one compares to what they provided. I have concern, as the owner is also trained and accomplished as a chef in fine American fare, which I already have too many choices for that category.
Looking forward to this opening.

Re: Uptown Shoppes
Now that the vape store and Papa Murphy's have closed, this center is looking bleak again with only three upstairs tenants remaining. Is there any hope that Larry Sells will ever figure out how to attract and retain quality tenants?
