Too suburban. Design sux. Not tall enough. No ground floor retail.

Agree - this should've been taller. If you're going to tout city views and living next to the river, why not build taller to give residents better views?chingon wrote:Too suburban. Design sux. Not tall enough. No ground floor retail.

Now that the first project has been announced for the 45 riverfront acres that the Port Authority of Kansas City has been trying to develop, plans for others are expected to start flooding in.

I can't help but think what a great location this would've been for the Sporting KC stadium, a couple of Cerner buildings, residential and retail...with the exception of the sea of parking that would've followed.

Ugh, don't remind me. Yes, that would have been absolutely perfect.kcjak wrote:I can't help but think what a great location this would've been for the Sporting KC stadium, a couple of Cerner buildings, residential and retail...with the exception of the sea of parking that would've followed.

There are no height restrictions on the riverfront, per GDAP.

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
when the bridge was built there was a formal complaint about the height as it related to flight paths.Eon Blue wrote:There are no height restrictions on the riverfront, per GDAP.
no developer wants to deal with that. they'll keep them short on purpose

Looks cool. Reminds me of the southern riverfront in Portland though with less density and a little less height.

Port of Kansas City will reopen
http://tinyurl.com/mb8zf79Kaw Valley Cos. Inc. will reopen the Woodswether terminal at the Port of Kansas City.
On Monday, the Port Authority of Kansas City and Kaw Valley Cos. of Kansas City, Kan., announced that the port — which has been closed since 2007 — will be reopened and freight will start landing there by the spring.

Had not seen these renderings before. Also, when did this project get the name "Union | Berkeley Riverfront Park"? And, do the "babes" come with the lease?

This project is closer to happening than I thought. Wish Flaherty-Collins was leading the Columbus Park development.
http://metrowiremedia.com/jerry-collins ... ly-market/By April, the firm will launch that riverfront project in Columbus Park: a massive 398-unit luxury apartment with 12,000 square feet of retail dubbed “Union.” It’s loaded with amenities, including a pool with sundeck, sky boxes with skyline views, a gaming lounge, fitness club, indoor/outdoor yoga studio, a pet walk, pet wash and a bicycle bar.

Haha I want to go to Fixy, the bicycle bar.
Looks like a cool development. Agreed that this developer would be much better suited for the Columbus Park development.
I only wish that this included a highrise or two. Hopefully the riverfront gets a couple, because it will need the density if they want retail to work and the park to be well used. Not to mention the wonderful view opportunities.
