Re: Rankings, lists, and such
They also list the newer part of Powell Gardens, which doesn't make sense either. It's not horrible, but there are tons of botanic gardens that are awesome elsewhere.brewcrew1000 wrote:This makes no sense, they list the Jones Pool as one of the 16th best attractions for Families in the entire nation

I'm not into fashion at all, but describing anyone who is as "vain" is pretty close minded. Even for this place.

You should read what Walter Benjamin had to say about fashion, then.

KC experiencing one of the greater gains on senior population. KS is losing senior citizens.

Top 15 Retirement Cities for Foodies
For the retiree who loves blues, arts and lip-smacking barbecue, Kansas City, here you come! The growing city is undergoing a sort of food renaissance with underground supper clubs (Test Kitchen), farm-to-table restaurants (try West Side Local) and saucy barbecue (from Oklahoma Joe's) leading the way. Lower housing values (a whopping $124,400, according to the National Realtors Association) and property taxes makes this city affordable as well, a must for the discerning retiree, says CPA Tom Corley.

America's best burger cities
Another case of lazy reporting.No. 8 Kansas City, Mo.
Once home to the nation’s second-largest livestock area, this is a serious beef town—it even won the barbecue category this year. The city’s best gourmet burger option may be at Blanc Burgers + Bottles, which offers watercress and truffle butter as toppings. Kids and trainspotters, however, might prefer Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant, dating back to the 1950s, where the burgers are delivered by way of miniature train.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
That's a nice interesting graph. But it doesn't say that KC metro declined relative to population. KC is about 29th in population today and is ranked 29th in GDP. It's not that KC GDP really went down, but rather W and S expanded more than KC did (and Midwest overall), both in population and GDP - nothing new there. At least KC's GDP ranking is in line with its population ranking. KC's GDP is also higher than metro Cincy, which is slightly larger than KC.
If you look at STL, their GDP today is lower than their population ranking, by several positions. I think only Detroit has a lower per cap GDP than STL.

That was my understanding as well.earthling wrote:That's a nice interesting graph. But it doesn't say that KC metro declined relative to population. Keep in mind that St. Louis has been a slow growth metro for decades and actually grew as fast during 2000-2010 as the previous couple of decades. While it's true that St. Louis has some issues, the narrative of St. Louis decline can be a bit exaggerated on this board (in my opinion) and is presented as some kind of recent phenomenon. St. Louis was declining before Detroit was done booming (and is older), and in fact saw a metro wide population decline that it pulled out of in the 1970s and is more stable than it has been in the past. So in a way it's kind of hopefully like Detroits future, a stablized place with some seriously bright spots.earthling wrote:

Milwaukee, Indy and Columbus seem odd cities to fall off the chart.
