One of the points I heard made last night on Ruckus was that many of those people attending Rockfest also spent money in Kansas City at area restaurants, bars, hotels, and convenience stores. Many came from out of town. The other point was that $50,000 went to the Liberty Memorial, which is in dire need of revenue.

Was that before or after they got all covered with mud?FangKC wrote: One of the points I heard made last night on Ruckus was that many of those people attending Rockfest also spent money in Kansas City at area restaurants, bars, hotels,
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

I have seen the Rockfest crowd and stand by my original gross stereotype. Is a wannabe meth head really any better than the genuine article?

If you've got all the symptoms, doesn't really matter if you have the disease! Kidding, I love me some metal (just not at rockfest)

The crowd seemed a little more calm this year just watching from my balcony. Not so many people drunk at 10:00 in the morning and not as loud leaving at 11:00/12:00 PM. Some noise, just not up to par compared to recent years. I think the size was the same. We did hear someone shout this morning about 7:30 (ROCKFEST ROCKS!) Not sure if he just woke up or what, but that was refreshing. The fireworks were pretty nice last night. Just seemed more organized I guess.

How many more years before Rockfest moves to the KS Speedway? From a logistics standpoint it just seems like the Speedway would make more sense
I'm sure a lot of the attendees biggest complaint about Rockfest is the parking. It was weird, lots of surface parking spots filled up by linwood and main. Like HomeDepot and other lots (Subway) were really full of cars (Costco had police protecting its parking). But I also noticed a lot of spots open on city streets just as far as those locations. Why risk being towed parking in those surface spots? I wonder if people that go to Rockfest don't know how to parallel park or are afraid of parking on city streets and they just get fed up and find a surface parking spot at a business because this is how they are use to parking in various suburban locations they live.

this is one thing the streetcar will help with. it makes downtown parking be within reach and as we know, there's a lot of it

Most places even as far south as Linwood were charging $20 for parking. I thought about opening up my yard in Volker and operating a shuttle service

Looks like Rockfest has been moved to the Speedway this year. I am really surprised it wasn't done sooner. Who knows if it will even help improve attendance but it did look like it wasn't selling out over the last few year. The lineup looks kind of crappy.

Probably wise, but I'll miss the people-watching in midtown.
Re: Should Rockfest be banned from Penn Valley Park?
There was pushback to rockfest happening with some of the neighborhood associations in the area, no idea if that was part of the reason. Speedway seems like a much better location, although I will miss being able to hear some 2000's nu-metal from my porch.

The Speedway is a better venue for that type of event. Now bring back ReggaeFest to Penn Valley.
