Would you expect the Mizzou fight song to be played in any Kansas schools?

Re: Don't play kU fight song in Missouri schools
Schools in Kansas have played the Mizzou fight song over the intercom every time they've reached the Final Four.pstokely wrote:Would you expect the Mizzou fight song to be played in any Kansas schools?
My Mom is a teacher in Kansas and MU grad. She played the KU fight song for her kids when they made the Final Four for fun (it was hard for her to do, believe me), but she also did a little MU cheer when MU beat KU. If your feelings are so hurt by this you have to think everything is a conspiracy against MU, then you need to isolate yourself from the Internet and move to Columbia. Both sides will endure pain now and then, and both sides have elements who complain like children. It is just that the pain will be less severe now that they will never play meaningful games again unless they meet in the tournament or in a bowl game.

this is really an issue schools should remain neutral on, Lees Summit is a Mizzou town, game started too late for kids anyway

Some people need to get a life...or Mizzou needs to make a final four.

Shall we assume that the school played the Kentucky fight song on April 3rd?

Though I am not AT ALL surprised that a former Missouri state rep was involved.

Hey, our school (S&T) may be in the UM system, but in the end, we already have more contempt for Mizzou than we do for KU. And the tune is way more catchy than the Mizzou fight song.
So if they get huffy about our band (or high school bands for that matter) playing that song at games, they can suck egg.

But there's not a lot of kU fans in Rolla to begin withIraGlacialis wrote:Hey, our school (S&T) may be in the UM system, but in the end, we already have more contempt for Mizzou than we do for KU. And the tune is way more catchy than the Mizzou fight song.

I know more KU fans that go to Rolla than actually go to KU. It might have something to do with being from the Missouri side though.

Re: Don't play kU fight song in Missouri schools
Has nothing to do with having any KU fans or not. We have our own fight song which is played, but other songs are played at other intervals. And KU's song is one of them because it sounds nice, complete with the cheer and all; no connection is made to KU during that. If Mizzou had the same song, I'd bet we would use it anyways.pstokely wrote: But there's not a lot of kU fans in Rolla to begin with
And being the school we are, Rolla is very neutral on the whole issue anyways. We have Mizzou, KU, Arkansas, Nebraska, Notre Dame, etc etc etc fans, and the rest (read: majority) of us don't give a damn about any of them.
Well, it may not explain the actual fans of KU sports, but most of us (even some of the Mizzou fans) consider Mizzou our borderline-retarded big brother who mooches on us come St. Pats (they probably think of us as the loser nerd little brother). That and the fact that whenever we would go to the respective campuses for various events (be it academic, design team, or a track/CC/swimming event), many of us find that KU treats us a lot nicer than Mizzou.longviewmo wrote:I know more KU fans that go to Rolla than actually go to KU. In that end, there really isn't any reason we should have some sort of allegiance to MU. That probably is why so many visible different sport fans are able to exist here.

Re: Don't play kU fight song in Missouri schools
This guy has his priorities in line. I applaud him:
“As a parent of two and a taxpaying resident of the Lee’s Summit R–7 School District, I am shocked and disappointed that there was an apparent attempt to indoctrinate Lee’s Summit school children to be KU fans at Trailridge Elementary this week,” said Brian Yates, a former state representative and graduate of the University of Missouri. “Playing the KU fight song or any college fight song over the intercom in a publicly funded elementary school is unacceptable.”
Darn right.
