The "No Reservations" episode got me searching the web and I cam across this great web site with TONS of old KC photos.

Oak Tower (former SW Bell Building) looked so much better before they modernized it.

Question: I believe I've heard it said that "they" simply covered up the decoration rather than removed it. Any truth to this? Oak Tower is a pock mark on the skyline at this point, but it would be beautiful if returned to its original facade.FangKC wrote:Oak Tower (former SW Bell Building) looked so much better before they modernized it.

The facade was altered in the early 70's. The raised terra cotta was hacked away, to create a "smooth" surface to which the new skin could be affixed.smh wrote:Question: I believe I've heard it said that "they" simply covered up the decoration rather than removed it. The terra cotta was removed in 1975 when Civic Plaza National Bank purchased the building after SW Bell moived to their new building a few blocks north. The gothic tracery made it the most romantic element on the skyline.
