Re: 2012 Sporting Kansas City
Yea, that stadium was empty. They had the entire section behind one of the goals blocked off and the rest of the stadium was still sparse. Attendance had to be may 5-7k. Our attendance was 15K the other weekend. almost 3/4 full.AllThingsKC wrote:I don't know what the attendance was for tonight's game, but that stadium sure looked empty on TV. Even when SKC was going against KU last week, the attendance at Livestrong Sporting Park looked much better.
Was watching an interview with Vermes and I have to say part of the reason its so easy to like Sporting is because of how straight forward the coach and ownership are. They say it like it is. When asked if they were looking into getting a European player his response was, yeah, we're always looking to pick up new players. Everyone in this locker room knows they have to keep performing and if they don't, they're gonna get traded/released and replaced with someone who can perform.
They really strive for the best and it shows.

If any team in KC is going 162-0, it will be Sporting KC.
In 5 games, they have yet to give up a goal, right?

They didn't give up a shot on goal to the defending champs. Granted, no Beckham, and a lame Donovan, but still, very impressive.
Also, 20,000 plus for the Galaxy game. Great turnout!

Re: 2012 Sporting Kansas City
A Parisian in Kansas City - stylish defender Aurelien Collin has finally found a home deep in the MLS heartland
An even better fit for the cultured Parisian: Kansas City.
"Honestly, when I came here I was expecting something very different," said Collin. "But I'm very happy with the people; they're very nice and there's a lot of things to do -- fashionwise, musicwise. I go to the orchestra."
Now settled in a hip, urban neighborhood, Collin goes to fashion shows, does charity work, helps support a friend who has opened an orphanage in Congo and has started studying for an online degree in fashion design. "Since I was young I was into fashion and following the best designers and going to fashion shows," he explained. "I read the magazines about fashion every day. I love it. It's one of my passions. I have a lot of projects in my mind. A lot of things I began here. But I need to study first to be the best so I can really begin my projects."

6-0!!! and the game ought to have been 2-0, but no one can say that the ref's favored SKC during the game at least.

That was the worse call I have seen in the MLS. Glad SKC was able to come back. This looks like the most solid team we've seen in the MLS in a while. They've only given up one goal in 6 games, and went 335 minutes without a shot on goal. Those are crazy good stats!

Yeah, these guys really seem to gel on and off the field. It's beyond encouraging to the point of almost awe-inspiring. They are clearly the best team in MLS by far right now. The game Saturday should have been 2-0, and RSL only had one SOG. While I of course don't think they've any chance of pulling off anything remotely close to a perfect season, I don't see them losing anytime soon. The next three games should, in theory, be a cakewalk.

7-0! 3-1 Sporting KC - although, I had flashbacks from last year toward the end of the game.

I agree with the flashbacks from last year. But, when you're up 3-0 in the last 10 minutes of the game, you can play a little bit differently than if you were up 2-1.
In the mean time, 7-0 is the only stat that matters.

I know these things happen, but I couldn't help but laugh my ass off at the own goal.

One game down, 13 to go in a fairly tough stretch of schedule. Starting last night 9 of the next 14 games are on the road.

I can't comment, since I missed the game, but from what I read it seems like it was just one of those games where it went the other way. It would have been nice to at least tie the Galaxy with 8-0-0, but in the end they are still the team to beat.

SKC looked pretty flat. Portland's decent but at best this should have been 0-0. The own goal was pretty horrifying.

I agree, SKC basically beat themselves in this game.chaglang wrote:SKC looked pretty flat. Portland's decent but at best this should have been 0-0. The own goal was pretty horrifying.

One benefit of leading a league where the NY team is in second place: NY press coverage.
