Report: NHL set to unload or move Coyotes after this season
The days of the Phoenix Coyotes may be nearing an end, according to a report from the Toronto Star. And whether the team remains in Glendale or goes elsewhere is anybody's guess.

In the report, a senior league source says "The clock runs out this year" on trying to find someone to purchase the struggling team.

The NHL currently runs the Coyotes with financial help from the city of Glendale totaling $25 million, according to the newspaper. Lower attendance is a poor sign of faith in the organization's future in Phoenix, despite the team's 8-4-3 record.

The NHL hasn't had much luck finding someone to own the Coyotes.

Does the NHL have a reduction of teams in its future?

3. Phoenix: The NHL wants to keep the Coyotes in Arizona and will likely adopt the "Atlanta timeline," ie. waiting until the last possible minute before announcing any move. It's been reported the four potential sites are Seattle, Las Vegas, Quebec City and Kansas City. (Technically, the league can't talk to another city until Jan. 1). If it is one of the first two, the team wouldn't have to switch conferences. If it's Quebec, you're looking at the Montreal grouping. Kansas City? No idea.
Couldn't you just move Vancouver to the Pacific, put Winnipeg in the Northwest, put Nashville in the Southeast and put KC in the Central with Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit and Columbus? Seems to make a lot more sense. Quebec is the one that seems problematic as you'd have to bump Toronto or Buffalo out of the Northeast - Toronto could be back with Chicago and Detroit, but then they'd lose their rivalry with Montreal. Buffalo doesn't make as much sense in the Central IMO.

Put Detroit and Columbus in the Alantic or Northeast.
Detroit is in Eastern Time Zone.

Those conferences won't exist next year. The NHL is going to 4 conferences. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc ... hl-wp19063

What I heard on NHL LIve or whatever that Versus preshow is would be to move Detroit to Conference D and put Kansas City in Conference B. But, I would think moving Nashville would make more sense to keep Detroit and Chicago together and give Carolina a travel partner and a rivalry between those two teams would make sense.

For reasons unknown to me, I got an email from the NY Islanders today, like a normal fan mailing list newsletter. Did this happen to anyone else? I don't recall signing up for such a list, nor am I much of a hockey fan, but I do sign up for a fair number of KC-related lists.

Reports from Seattle that the city is working with a venture capitalist to potentially bring the Sac Kings and/or Phoenix Coyotes to a new, mostly privately financed arena proposed for an area south of Safeco Field.

Seattle NBA arena no slam dunk: Teams, money required
Calling it a historic day, a beaming Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and King County Executive Dow Constantine on Thursday unveiled what they described as a risk-free proposal to build a half-billion-dollar arena that could bring NBA basketball back to Seattle and attract its first National Hockey League team.

Both officials said the arena could be built just south of Safeco Field with $290 million provided by private investors and $200 million in taxes generated by the arena, but that construction would not begin until the investors, led by San Francisco hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen, are able to secure both NBA and NHL teams.

One team, maybe a long shot. Two teams, doubt even Vagas would give odds on it.

No KC Coyotes.

Sale to keep Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona close to final
The National Hockey League is close to putting the finishing touches on a sale of the Phoenix Coyotes hockey franchise to a group led by former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison. That sale would keep the team playing in the Phoenix market.

I've heard this before...... But seriously, this is the only chance (and it's the slightest chance) we had left of landing an NHL franchise. They lock that team up in Phoenix, we're done. Not happening. Thanks. Good night. Turn off the lights.

If those Arizona bids don’t work out the NHL can still look to sell and relocate the Coyotes to Seattle or a Canadian market. Theirs tsill the Islanders if can't get a new Arena and maybe Panthers.

The way I see it, the Coyotes didn't move to Winnipeg (when it was a "sure" thing) but the Thrashers did. I don't see the Desert Dogs leaving. NHL has done too much and moving is almost not an option. Islanders locked up till 2015. The Panthers argument is always been wishful thinking to me.

Oh course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Sacramento Kings owners still waiting for details of arena financing plan.
That's why some people believe the NBA, which in May promised the Kings owners it would support their desire to move the franchise if a "viable arena plan" in Sacramento didn't materialize by March, will allow the process to drag on by extending the relocation deadline for the second consecutive year.

That, however, is not under consideration, according to NBA spokesman Tim Frank.

Earlier this week, I asked Frank in an email "if the relocation deadline is as flexible as it was last year, when two extensions were granted (by the NBA Board of Governors) or whether there has to be a financing plan announced by March 1, to the NBA's satisfaction."

This was Frank's response: "The deadline has not been extended and remains March 1."
Rumors are if the Kings move, it will be to Anaheim, who just began arena renovations.

Anaheim upgrades arena - will NBA come?

^ The Kings moving to Anaheim is one of the dumbest moves you can make. Why would LA support 3 NBA teams? Nobody was going to Clipper games for years, now they have a few good players, they are selling out every game.
