The Downtown Council and city officials have targeted Wyandotte Street as the primary pedestrian route between the new arts center and central business district, with people then being encouraged to walk along 13th or 14th streets to reach the restaurants and bars in the Power & Light District.
The city has allocated $260,000 for benches, trash receptacles and planters to make the stroll along those designated streets more inviting, with an additional $800,000 being spent to resurface streets in the area and rebuild sidewalks, including along Broadway and Baltimore Avenue.

260k for benches, trash and planters!!!
I think that this needs to be done as much as the next man... maybe more but i'm almost 100% sure that all $260k isn't going towards benches... i wonder where the rest of that money is going.

First picture was taken during this past First Friday.
Experiment with panorama, with pictures taken Sunday.
A valid concern is made about connectivity to the south edge; at the same time, there really didn't seem to be much there, in terms of development to 17th st. So far though, Broadway and Wyandotte look like they are going to be connected well, and as time progresses on, it looks like there is enough room to possibly work on the south edge in the future.

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction
it may have been mentioned before, but the public will be able to tour the facility on "community day". 11a-5p on sunday, sept. 18. all restaurants, galleries, and retail are being encouraged to remain open that day for the expected 20K visitors. there may be shuttles to ferry people to specific places, but those details are still being worked out.

A striking one page photo of the PAC is in the September issue of Architectural Digest announcing the opening date.

The article mentions 'a glass wall to pull in daylight and collect views of the city and the prairie in the distance...' was something Moshe himself mentioned on a KCUR interview last week. REALLY?!?

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

At least somebody (was it one of you guys) called the writer out on that.
In any case, a friend from St. Louis, upon seeing the PAC, now refers to the place as the "Ruffles Center". Make of that what you will.

Yes, I do. I've been in the construction industry since 1975.shinatoo wrote: Do you know what "Prevailing wage" is?
I get tired of people slagging on construction workers because "they make too much." And that was what I inferred from the earlier comments.

I want my government to get the best price possible for the projects that we are taxed to pay for, and I'd rather that 5 people that are out of work and have families to feed get paid for a simple landscaping/concrete/electrical job than one person getting paid 5x the lowest wage.KCFutbol wrote: And that was what I inferred from the earlier comments.

Actually, it's likely more of him being a slight cloudcuckoolander who takes little seriously.Pork Chop wrote: It's called jealousy.
Just never heard of the PAC being referred to as "ruffled".
