Chouteau Parkway Transformation to Begin in 2012
Chouteau Parkway will be widened to 4 lanes and have a median added from Armour Road (210 Highway) to I-35. The plan includes bike lanes. Some buildings along the parkway will be purchased and demolished--mostly the strip north of Parvin Road. Work starts in 2012.

There is no fifth destination.

Alas, this project has already forced Diamond Joe's to close and the venerable Donut King to move to North Kansas City in new strip mall. The Donut King flashing lights signage will sorely be missed.

Diamond Joe's is closed? Terrible.

What's sad is that the City/Parks department deem it necessary to had no commericial real estate along Parkways. Searcy Creek, Line Creek, and Shoal Creek parkways are prime examples.
This area already has barely no basic services such as grocery, restaurants, or other shops.
Now just south of the Target there will be a four lane road with NOTHING on it.
It will simply become a highway for those traveling to Harrahs or across the river.

Ground broken for Francois Chouteau Native American fountain near intersection with Parvin. Will have simulated limestone bluff with waterfall, pools and multiple bronze figures. Nice bauble for a not upscale part of town.

Small "bluff" has been constructed with 3 statues atop. Still trying to raise funds to have it all completed for the bicentennial next year.

This part of the northland is a really strange area. Kind of reminds me of southeastern Waldo/KCMO.
I recently discovered Hidden Valley Park off Parvin Road near 435 (very close to WoF) and found the park to be a really pleasant surprise for easy access urban mountain biking. It represents it's name well - kind of a hidden gem in a less familiar part of town. About a 5 mile loop of flowing singletrack trails on the south side, along wooded bluffs on either side of a natural valley that winds down towards Armour Road/MO-152. Excellent biking and trail running terrain, if a bit short. You would never know it's there.
Between Hidden Valley and Kessler Park, there are some surprisingly solid wooded single track trail systems in the northern and eastern orbit of downtown proper. And the Rozarks to the southwest along I35. All volunteer managed by Urban Trail Co, I believe.

Don't trust the mile markers on the map, there's 2x 2.0 markers on it. the website says it's 4 miles of trails which is about right.

Statue of Osage woman stolen Tuesday. Had to be some heavy equipment to pull of this heist. Surely somewhere on the pkwy there has to be video of some vehicle capable of doing this. Some say could be racially motivated? Unless thieves have own foundry to melt down, how would they sell this for scrap? Unless someone wants it for their man cave.

I would guess they plan to melt it down.

Depending on the amount of organization involved stolen art tends to be sold overseas.
They can stick it on a boat for super low cost and sell it to a private collector for far more than the melt value.
The only way you wouldn't gain some suspicion is to own your own forge and there's far less conspicuous items to steal for scrap that doesn't come with an immediate felony over the value

Man arrested and parts of the statute located. Looks like they cut it into pieces to attempt to sell.

A guy by that name was arrested by the FBI and accused on two bank robberies in the Northland back in 2009.

Almost all of the pieces were recovered, the statue can be restored. It will cost $12,000.00. City of Fountains foundation has a go fund me page.
