Re: beer.
a source with AIDS Walk told me that they're still hoping to have 2 beer festivals each year (one at legends, one at P&L) but are spreading them farther apart as to prevent the diminishing returns that they experienced last year.
I sure hope this is true, as i really want to go, but do NOT want to drive all the way out to the legends...or rather, don't want to drive all the way BACK from the legends after beerfest!

I'm not sure if it's been reported here yet, but Lagunitas is now available in KCMO.
Picked up a six of pale ale at Cellar Rat, which also had their IPA. Saw red ale at Gomer's.

Wouldn't hurt to check the Royal and Don's. There does seem to be a direct correlation between quickness of appearance and proximity to the brewery.

Re: beer.
Just got an email from cellar rats that they will have the new smokestack series, Seeyoulator, today.
Re: beer.
Rimann's told me this weekend they purchased the largest quantity of Bob's 47 in the city. Not sure how true this is, but that's bound to be a LOT of Bob's. I wish they would make this all year round so that I don't have to stock up each year!

you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows
Re: beer.
has anyone heard anything at all about Dead Canary? I was really, really excited about them and they just seemed to drop off the face of the earth. Their blog hasn't been updated in months. Here's hoping they pull it together...and pull off one of the more promising and unique local food/beverage products around.
are we spinning free?
Re: beer.
Most of the time, hops are harvested and then dried before being used in the brewing process. Some breweries use them dried with no further processing ("whole leaf") but many use hops which have been processed into plugs or pellets. With wet hopping, however, the beer is brewed partially or entirely with freshly harvested hops which have never been dried. This preserves many of the flavor components which can be lost with drying and processing, but requires that you get the fresh-picked hops to the brewery within a few hours, which isn't always practical. Some breweries, such as Sierra Nevada, grow hops on-site for this very purpose.bbqboy wrote: can someone explain wet hop beer to me?
This doesn't make a lot of sense when you consider "dry hopping" is merely the process of adding hops to the fermenter in addition to adding them to the wort during boil, but that's how it goes.

One is still planning on lawschool before they begin their beer making endeavor. The other is planning on brewing school. As you can imagine funds are tight and they're waiting for the right time. They are just trying to get their ducks in a row but things are definitely going slow.
