River Dogs-1010 east 1st
New restaurant, likely needs more help than any other location I can imagine.
Owned by a KC fireman, this place serves up oversized hot dogs that will create instant male insecurity.
Chicago dogs, new york dogs, build your own, tenderloins, burgers and last but not least, pig snoot sandwiches.
Open 10 to 2, mon. thru fri.
To get there, take third street east from river market until you curve over the bridge approaching Guinotte/Lydia (just south of Berkley Park) and reach the stop sign. Turn left and go a block. You can't miss it, but you have to be lost to find it.

Holy crap... that's quite a risk putting a restaurant there, hope it works out for him!
Anything else on the menu or is it just hot dogs?

Let's hope they aren't repeating the Garrett's Market mistake.

Re: River Dogs-1010 east 1st
Went for lunch today.
Very interestnig little place. It's only outside or in your car eating. You walk up to the window and an aggressive NY or Jersey personality meets you with "Whad can I getya." If you don't order fast enough (even when you're the only one there) he says it again. And again. Until you order. It was kind of awesome. Like I'm not eating in KC. The railroad tracks are literally 10 feet from the corner of this place. A crudely dumped pil of concrete with two benches is there for you to sit on. Otherwise you sit in your car. Apparently he's been open about a month. I ordered the tenderloin which I enjoyed. It was a little overdone for most tastes but I actually prefer mine a little extra crispy. It had a slice of cheese and was about double the size of the bun. Standard dress is lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion, and either mustard or mayo. He also had chili cheese fries and some other items but mostly dogs. I'm very excited to go back tomorrow for a hot dog.
All in all, this place is exactly what it's trying to be. Nothing more, nothing less. Quite honestly, I love it! (Now if I could only get my anorexic coworkers to come down for some grit so I didn't have to dine alone)

Is it a new building or operating out of an existing building? I'm trying to find where it might be in Google Street View.

Existing. The kitchen looked like all new equipment and he had an office of some sort on the west side of the building.scooterj wrote: Is it a new building or operating out of an existing building? I'm trying to find where it might be in Google Street View.
Here is the building...they cut a hole on the right side of the building for a drive up window type window. The garage door is now a big window.

They might get a pretty good lunch biz from all the industrial sites down there. I can't think that their overhead is even noticeable.

It sounds from the description like they're trying to create an environment that people will drive from all over to this place in the middle of nowhere with big long lines like you see on Anthony Bordain's No Reservations and shows like that all the time.
You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course.

It's actually not a dump in terms of the place it self. The surroundings - definitely. If you peek inside the window, everything is sparkly clean and he clearly takes pride in having a nice new kitchen. I was quite surprised but it doens't look like any of his equipment is used. Brand new tile floor, the cinderblock walls inside are all freshly painted white.
I mentioned previously I thought he was from NY or Jersey...nope. Says he's born and raised in K A N S A S C I T Y his whole life. You'd never know!
I went again and had the build your own dog. I had chili, cheese, onions, relish, mustard, and sweet peppers. It was awesome, and I'm going to be paying for it. Here are some phone pics for those of us not lucky enough to get to try it yet. The atmosphere is killer.

What's with the wires at the window? Is it rigged to explode?

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

I had the tenderloin and chili cheese fries (both great), but I'm getting the snoot next time.
