Re: Blogs about KC visits
Not really a blog about KC -- but as much a blog as the FW Star-Telegraph -- check out the article in this week's Southwest Spirit airline mag.

Of course, the only reason one of these magazines has travel features is to sell more airline tix, but a cool article nonetheless.

Re: Blogs about KC visits
thanks for the link Chrizow, there are some great comments following the mostly solid article. I'm not a big fan of all of the 'woe is me' KC is suuuch a car town, I just can't walk anywhere. The City Market, Xroads, Plaza/Museums and Brookside are all very walkable and completely connected by the very visible MAX line. But then, I imagine hip design divas might not enjoy takin' the bus.
are we spinning free?

Apparently "Leawood/Johnson County", Briarcliff Village and of all places Lawrence KS, which isn't even in the MSA are more relevant than the City Market, Crown Center and Westport.

It kind of depresses me that all anybody ever writes about when they visit KC is eating.

Not really about a KC visit, but this seems like as good a place as any to include this. Found this on Apartment Therapy yesterday. A pretty cool run-down of the work El Dorado has been doing.

Just saw this in the May issue of Food and Wine
http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/foo ... ansas-city
I hate it when the hook for a story is "Something cool in Kansas City? Who'da thunk?" Nevertheless, some good PR

What did your wife think? Did she roll her eyes at your plan? Leah was cool with it. Now she really likes it. The construction process was painful to her because our backyard was a wreck for three seasons and I didn't do anything else except drink and work on my pizza oven. And then, after I built it, all I did was drink and burn things. But then I sobered up, and now I only burn things.
This totally cracked me up. My wife would have killed me by season two.

Randomly stumbled upon this... I wonder if we are getting a lot of this kind of tourism without really realizing?
"Steven Holl Nelson Atkins Museum
Currently topping my list of must see architecture...I think I've decided Steven Holl might just be my favorite architect...Only wish he had designed this a few years ago so I could have used it as a precedent to my thesis project...

On another post:
We stayed at the Q Hotel in Westport. It was very nice. We got into KC at about 8:30 a.m. on Friday. We went to the Negro Leagues Museum and the Jazz Museum straight from the airport and spent about 3.5 hours there. The Negro Leagues Museum was phenomenal, worth going to KC just for that I think. I’m not much of a jazz person, but that was nice as well. Then we got lunch at a little diner near the hotel, checked in, and napped until game time. After the game we went back to the hotel for sleeping. We had to get up at 4 a.m. on the east coast to make our flight so we were exhausted.
Saturday after the game we went out in Westport, to a dueling piano bar, and when that got tiresome, what appeared to be a frat boy type sports bar called Harpo’s. We found that lots of people in KC are very tall. What is up with that? Westport is a VERY busy area on the weekends, huh?
Sunday we went to an area….don’t know what it’s called. The Plaza? All sorts of outdoor shops, a lot very fancy (Tiffany, Burberry, etc.) We took pictures of ourselves with about a hundred fountains. Then we flew home.
Very nice town, KC.
